cb350f mystery wires in headlight bucket

Been Around the Block
Took a look inside the headlight bucket to rewire my turn signals. There are three unconnected female ends, a brown wire, a green ground wire, and a black wire leading to a four way female connector with nothing connected to it. They're all coming from the main harness, not the controls. Anyone know what these are? Everything seems to be working.

Plug them all together and see what happens!

Have you looked at a diagram? Brown should be your tail light. I believe (but not 100% on this) that not only should the tail light come on when you turn on your headlight, but you should have a third key switch position above run that is for parking, and your tail light only should come in that position. That's my guess at least. As for the ground, I believe that the 350F had two wires at the turn signal, ground and power, but some people ground them directly to frame thus eliminating the need for a ground in the bucket. Again, just a guess. As for the black, dunno.

When you say everything works, does that include gauge lights?

I looked at the diagram, i'm bad at reading them don't see the four way connector and my bike seems different... for example in the diagram the hot wires for the T/S are orange... mine are black and there is no evidence of tampering. The T/S ground through the mounting nut on the inside of the bucket. The taillight lights up in the third key position as is.

I'll leave it up to sonreir for a final word but your turn signal wires should definitely be orange (left) and light blue (right). Someone's done some tapering/switching around, but if it all works run it.

When I opened my 350f I also had a few stragglers. I'll see if I can tell which colonies they were from the photos I have. When I re wired the whole bike I had a couple extra ends again. Bike has been running 100% for the last few months.

I don't remember what the brown is but the black is a switched ignition. My cb550s both have these extra deadend wires as well.

brown = tail light
green = ground
black = switched ignition power

the PO may have done some rearranging for whatever reason. do you have any pictures of it?
