cb350g brake caliper sticks

Been Around the Block
Today when I took my 73' cb350g out for a test ride I noticed my caliper was sticking. It's like when I apply the brakes the pads don't retract and continue to rub on the rotor. It was so bad that it caused a small grove to form and the rotor to change colors, like when stainless steel gets really hot. Just a little background on the brakes, I'm running a newer style master cylinder off of either a gsxr or r1, can't remember at the moment, and a single stainless braided brake line since the master cylinder has an integrated brake light switch. Obviously I'm going to have to get the rotor re-surfaced but would rebuilding the caliper fix the sticking problem or do I need to ditch the newer master cylinder for an original? Thanks for any help in advance.
