cb360 blowing oil

the girlfriend just picked up a 360 for her first bike. 6k on the clock. Ran beautifully on the test ride, but about half way home on the freeway, it started blowing oil out of the breather tube (top of the head). Since I broke my foot, we had a friend riding it, and it was very apparent to me while following him. By the time it pulled in my driveway 20 miles later, the right side of the rear tire was covered in oil and it left a nice puddle.

Compression test showed 145 (give or take a couple psi) on both cylinders. Granted, the oil was NASTY. I changed the oil, ran it for a couple miles, changed it again (still BLACK), ran it for a few miles, changed it again (still BLACK), changed it again, and it finally came out looking fairly clean. At this point, I think I should have all of the old crap out of the motor.

Since then I have synced the carbs, and completely fucked up the idle mixture. It is now running rich enough to bog unless you throw some revs at it. Give me a break. I'm still working with a broken bone in my foot. :p But I got the girl going in a parking lot so she could start riding and noticed some oil dripping from the vent tube again. I figured with the compression numbers looking decent, it shouldn't be rings. But then what? Valve seals seem very unlikely. What am I over looking? Or am I just expecting too much given that its only gone 5 miles since the oil change(s) and may still have dirty oil keeping the rings from sealing well?

Take off the breather cover and make sure the gasket is in place and not damaged.

My comment remains the same. The breather gasket contains a large portion of interior material that helps keep oil out of the hose. It's more than just an oil seal, it's also an oil shield.

+1. The actual opening for the vent its the size of an oblong quarter. Acts as a baffle.

Mad science bitches!

See it as a good thing. Your top end is getting oil, and with a cb360 this is a big deal!

I'm thinking you should clean the oil centrifuge.

Aside from that, your breather system is saturated with oil, so it might continue to drip a little until it gets cleared out. Put a few hundred miles on it and see what happens.

Valve seals will not cause oil carryover out the breather. Bad valve seals can cause the engine to burn oil and blow smoke out the exhaust.

+1 I would clean the oil pick up screen too.
