CB360 box build - Project Junebug

Have you re-set the cam chain adjuster on the tensioner since you've gotten her running?

Re-check the valves and check cam chain tension.
Make sure you 'lock' crank in position when doing left side, the magnets on rotor and valve spring (cam position) on right makes it want to turn past correct position
Can't really tell if it's ticking bit more than normal as cellphone and majority of video cameras accentuate higher frequencies

Yessir, I use a zip tie to keep the wrench on the crank locked in place for valve adjustment of left side valves, the right side adjustment doesn't seem to have the same propensity of forceful turning over. I did all of this and there's still significant noise, is there a procedure for adjusting cam chain while the bike is running? Every other Honda I've had so far it has been a running adjustment but the manual wanted a static.

Once I get it road worthy I'll take it to the old Triumph shop down the street and have them look at it, I know cell phone audio is pretty worthless

Hmm, my right exhaust pipe gets incredibly hot and is already blueing, my left barely gets warm after a minute of running. Time to start troubleshooting

Lean mixture will cause the bluing but does the cold side of the exhaust also have a cold engine on that side?

I figured the cold engine side was out of sync on the carb, but thought the bluing could be coming from a lean carb too. I'm also assuming the bike has not ridden yet, so only idle.

I checked the timing after installation of the pamco, adjusted it with a strobe, and it's dead on.

Haven't gotten around to a synch as I don't have a manometer or synch adapters. Figure I'll build a manometer, and I'm trying to source some adapters atm... I've never synced carbs so it should be fun. Thank god there's just two of em.

When I first put gas in the carbs, the right carb pissed gas from the overflow. I tapped it on the side thinking maybe the float was just stuck from sitting and it hasn't leaked since. Hope it's unrelated. If anything, a float issue would mean a rich condition, and the last person who split my carbs was PJ so I'm pretty sure the floats are set right.

Idle has been steady, but I'll make sure I don't have any slight air leaks.

The right muffler is rotted out slightly, and I mean slightly... Would that have a huge affect?

I'll get back to y'all with an update Monday afternoon. I've got workandclassandworkandclass until then.

Get an infrared thermometer from Harber Freight and point it at the headers in the same place on each one. Sync 'em that way. I assume you already have a carb sync tool? And no syncing carbs is not fun. It sucks and I hate with all my being.

Narp, don't own a synch tool. I was going to build my own (I think it's called a manometer?)

I knew out of synch carbs could cause rough running, I had no idea it could cause such drastic differences in tune between cylinders

Sorry, I meant a carb sync wrench. Like this...

I usually use one of these jawns from Harbor Freight to sync mine...

I still have the sync tool kit that I use now and then, but the infrared thermometer is super easy and requires no setup.

Narp, don't have one of those wrenches, guess that's another special tool I need... I do love gathering tools.

How reliable is the infrared gun? I had no idea carb synch caused such a disparity in temperature.... I really don't have much of a grasp on what synching a carb actually DOES, so I'm gonna go do some research before I ask anymore dumb questions

The only problem with the IR gun is that it can't detect between sync and timing disparities as both issues will cause exhaust temp changes. Better to do it the hard way or at least ensure ignition timing is spot on before doing the carb sync.

I guess I know what it does, (syncing butterfly valves) but I'de like to know more about unsynched carbs and how and why symptoms occur
