CB360 Cafe Project

Yeah, when I did my last tank, I just put on some nice thick coats, and that stuff works magic. Well now you know, and confirmed what I had heard. Good progress either way

That latch should come off with a Philips screw driver, there is a screw that that is hidden on the left side of it. The cap is just held on by a pin and you can knock it out with a nail or small punch. When you are done just drive the pin back in and mushroom the end again.

Sweet I was wondering if it was that easy, and I want to get a nice clean paint job in those crannies. Thank frogman will do. I want to put the latch setup of my 360 tank on it but then the 360 tank would be worthless.

A little bit of a update. I started putting knee dents in my cb500t tank and didn't like how it came out. And Frogman, I got the latch off but I tried to get the cap off and didnt know hoe to get the pin out, I got a small punch and tried to knock it out but didnt work.

Back to the tank, when I first got it I didnt really like the back of the tank, and know that I messed up the knee dents and I wasnt going to keep them, I decided to cut out the back top of the tank first. I made a new back out of 16 guage steel and I am trying to style it like a rectangular enlonguated tank. I am working on the sides right now and I am moving the fuel petcock because of the carb and frame issue (it hits them).

On a side note I got cb350 exhaust flanges and I have to drill the holes wider and grind down the height of the bolt holes. I like that style better, looks more old school with the heat sinks.

And does anybody know where to get some brass screening? I have looked at a lot of places and still nothing. The internet all I find is buying in bulk, thanks for any help.

What type/size are you looking for?
I dont know what size exactly but like the typical brass netting like they use for front drums. Like a screen door. But I need just a piece about 10'' by 10'' and thats about it. Thanks for your help again frogman

Hardware stores around here sell similar stuff like that, used for screen door protection from animals scratching on it. Then there is Hobby Lobby and the like. May PM troybuilt see where he got his from when did the accents on willow. I'll do some looking around the internets, using the word MESH is another good way to find it.

Ohh Hobby Lobby never thought of that, I might be able to stop by there today and see if they have any. I wouldnt mind buying a big roll of it, if it was like 10-20 bucks. Never thought of using the word mesh eiether, Mesh/screening/netting. Thanks frogman, You live in Ok right? I saw a cafe ( not saying it was you) on the road right before my house, which is super rare to see anything let alone a cafe, and they are all in the city anyways. I have seen a good 5 cafes now in OKC which is awesome because I am not that far from OKC.

It looks like you were going for hammered knee dents at first then switched obviously to cut out/re-weld. Any reason? I've also heard that cut out/re-weld can be done by simply cutting out the left side and welding it on the right. Just heard it though, makes sense.

Yea I have seen that a lot and does make sense, but from the first day I bought the tank I told myself if I was going to cut into to it, I am changind the back top. I like the style of the enlongated rectagular tanks and decided to modifiy this one. The knee dents looked good just wasnt right looking, from the top it looked too radical.

Aww. I thought about putting knee dents on my '69 350 and re-welding on the knee pad tabs but figured there's always next bike. Looking cool so far though.

Good deal! I figured you would find some silly cheap.

My toy is not cafe'd nor will she ever be. I have too much fun with it as is. ;D Something about a slightly modified classic Honda just gets it for me.

Shot is at a lake about 10 miles from here, I live south of the city in Chickasha. I was out blasting dirt roads and back roads that day. 8) Still looking for a basket case to cafe though, I would be the only guy on one here.

Thats a clean lake for OK, I always wanted todo that, going down dirt roads ripping it up. Your bike is nice, my friend had a clean stock cb200 and it was fun as is. At least you are riding yours I am going on a year now, got it on halloween. It would be better to have a running one and then start another project, because then you wouldn't get as impatient and wouldn't rush some things.

I want a 450 or 500, love twins ( have nothing wrong with 4s).

Took the metal housing out of my YSS shocks, so they will fit on the frame. I need to make some brackets for the bottom mounts. I was planning on making rectangle brackets with 2 holes drill for the excising stock holes and the other for the aftermarket shocks, and weld a nut on the brackets. If any sees a flaw with my idea please tell me, I should be making them tomorrow.

I was thinking of making the bracket up an down, like where the two eyes sit on top of eachother, but if it would be okay to put it to the side I would go down that route. Just scared of the bracket moving around.

I'm not sure of the brackets you are describing, but you can't use two rectangle brackets on one side. It will have too much play side to side. The only way I can see to do it is to build a clevis; like what is on the bottom of the original shock and then weld the clevis to the swing arm.
