CB360 Clip-ons(wiring stock switches through bars)

renslow

Been Around the Block
Quick question!

For all of those who are running clip-ons are there any companies that sell clip ons with 'holes' in them to run the stock switches(wiring) through the bars?

The reason why I ask is because I'd love to run clip ons with the original switches and run the wiring through the bars to keep it clean. I purchased a pair of clip ons on my other 360 but I had to drill holes for the wiring and i messed it up because I didnt have the headlight grounded on the bars.

And I dont want to cut up the stock switches and move the wiring to the side so i can clamp them on the bars. Hope you can follow me on that one

You can make a small notch in the base of the switch boxes just large enough for the wiring to come though and run on the ouside of the tube instead of through the centre, looks totally original, Thats how mine is done, works great and unless you want to keep it all original nobody will ever know.

I may have to give it a shot. Appreciate the comment ill keep the forum posted on updates of the bike :)

Running wiring through clip ons is pretty easy, as long as you have access to the end of the bar so the wiring can come out that way. Just drill a hole big enough for the wiring, but make sure that you use a rat tail file or sandpaper to smooth out the hole, otherwise the wiring will catch and the housing can split open, leading to shorts, cut wire, etc. If your wiring is not wrapped already, wrapping it in heat shrink tubing or electrical tape will help as well. If the end of your bar isn't open, it's harder. You'll have to drill a second exit hole, file or sand it, and try to thread the wiring through it. One technique that helps is to wrap one wire (or strong fishing line with a weight on the end) around the wiring from the control, and thread it through the two holes, and pull your wiring behind it. You can always use grease or spray lubricant to help the wiring get through the bar. And if you need to ground the headlight, you can always just run a ground wire to somewhere to the frame.
