CB360 clutch cable length??

Hey all! I just tried to adjust the clutch on my 360, since it was dragging slightly when at a stop, and now I have the proverbial clutch pop. I do have aftermarket cables that the PO installed, brand unknown. I'd like to check the measurements and shorten the sheath if necessary. Does anybody know how much longer the cable should be, in relation to the sheath length? An aftermarket one I found online sites 3.5", would that be about right? Thanks in advance for the help!

It is probably just adjusted wrong. Most people adjust it wrong. You need to start with the cable at the clutch actuator end, adjust it for the most slack, same at the lever....When everything is relaxed, the clutch actuator arm needs to be all the way down, about a 45 degree angle and the cable loose. You have to pull the sprocket cover off to verify that. then you start the screw adjustment, after reassembly of the sprocket cover, per instructions.

Go to www.hondatwins.net in the CB360/cb350 section. There is a sticky on properly adjusting the clutch. If you follow it carefully , the clutch will work well.

I have a Motion Pro cable that seemed to short. When I adjusted it correctly, it worked perfectly. There are No threads showing at the sprocket cover, the range of motion is right on, and the adjustment at the handlebar lever is nearly minimum. As the cable stretches, I'll have plenty of adjustment. My clutch works smoothly too.

The after market cables seem to be the wrong size, but most are just not adjusted correctly.

Thats the same link I followed, very great write up! Unfortunately, with the adjuster on the cover all the way in (loose, clockwise) and the cable all the way slack on both ends, with the lock nut removed from the lever end to get even more slack, the arm in the cover is almost exactly horizontal already. This is what leads me to believe the free length of the cable is too short.. It wont physically allow the actuator arm to go below this point and there is visible tension on the return spring. I'm hoping to get measurements of somebody's stock and/or correct functioning cable to compare to mine.

As it is now, I have it adjusted to where it won't pop but there is still that slight clutch drag. Perhaps not enough to cause issues, as it still goes into neutral ok, but I'd rather it work better so I can feel good about holding the clutch at a stop sign.

i have a motion pro cable as well and after follwoing a million walkthrough, i still would get clutch pop after a few minutes of using the clutch.
in the MP cable i believe there is about 1cm less of cable compared to outer sheathing, than the OEM cable. the length of the cable itself isnt the issue.
you could have a 6ft cable and it would still work as long as the outer sheathing were sized accordingly to the length of the cable.

when clutch is engaged, the actuator arm isnt fully retreating, and the balls arent all the way in their grooves, hence they have a head start when you start to disengage the clutch and eventually pop out of their grooves.

with an OEM Honda cable, this issue disappears, but for the motion pro cable, the best fix i found was to remove the upper cable locknut.

It is number #25 in this image. this allows for the extra cm of cable to come down into the clutch cover, and drop the actuator arm so that is is fully seated. I also have the adjuster (#21) turned all the way in.
