CB360 higher RPM issues

heres the deal,

74 honda CB 360, at low RPM it works great, good power and idles until it is out of gas,

how ever when i start to climb the RPM range it will start sputter, and run out of power, the only way to get to speed is to shift gears, the battery is ok, as it runs fine at idle which is the lowest amount of power , and i have the carbs synced.

the idle screw is out about 2.5 turns, ( i dont know what is needed;)) and from what i can tell, carbs are about as close as they get. te machine has had no problems with this before, so i am at a loss, and now that my car is stuck in Flordia, and i am in WI little help would be great!

What do the plugs look like when it sputters and dies? Might be super rich if you re-jetted lately.

Or the float height isn't correct, clogged fuel line, old coils, maybe even bad timing advance. Anybody else have ideas?

First things first...are you running completely stock airbox and exhaust setups? If so, are you also running completely stock carb setups?

I'll bump my tuning thread for you, have a read of it and see if anything jumps out at you.

I had the same problem a few days ago and posted on here. Someone had recommended I check the carbs. I took them apart and gave them a quick cleaning. While they weren't dirty, something must have cleared up because my bike no longer stutters at higher rpm's. I'm not sure it's the same problem, but thought I'd respond to your post. Good luck!

I should have said (the carbs were synced)

not any more! i rode the thing to work today and noticed it was a single side that was the issue, pulled the top off the carb with a hunch, and saw that i need a new diaphragm. the darn thing had a nice skylight poked right though it!

too bad they are $80 and the only company that makes them is Honda... this time i think i would blindly look past the whole OEM sticker and just shrug.

Thanks for the info!
