Cb360 motor help!!!

BriMed1983

Been Around the Block
Drove her to work and she ran very well. Broke down on my way home.

Upon closer inspection I have a oil leak a loose/ striped bolt and to top it all off it seems I lost the nut and screw on the intake valve tappet.... How bad is this????? The nut has probably been bouncing around in the cylinder every time tried to start it.

I guess my question is should I even bother with this motor or just start looking for a replacement. I don't have decent work space to do a rebuild so I would most likely have to take it to a shop = $$$

Unless you have some very serious problems, the nut isn't in the cylinder, it should still be in the rocker box.

Hopefully, it didn't get wedged in a spring, in the cam, or between the rockers or you're going to have more issues.

Get the rest of the bolts off of the rocker cover and remove it from the top of the head. Take some pics and show us the damage.

(*Face Palm*) of course! Ok I'll do that first. I just panicked and posted not thinking straight. I'll post picks as soon as I get the top end off. Thanks

Yes,
I removed the top valve cover, found my nut and screw that came loose (thank god no visible damage that I could see) put it back and re-adjusted all the tappet clearances. I used a Heli-coil for the one stripped valve cover bolt and put a new gasket. I have not started it up yet because I'm trying to fit my new Mikuni VM30's properly. The K&Ns hit the battery box so now im currently trying to sort that out.

I was thinking of bolting the battery box to the tool box mounting holes but I’m afraid that the Tire is too close and will hit it when riding. I'm stuck on that at the moment

There is no gasket on rocker cover, what did you do?

That explains why there wasnt one when I opened her up. I used the top cover as a template and cut one out of some thin gasket matirial I had at work. I haven't tested the motor yet, Still trying to sort out a final location my battery.

Should I remove my gasket or just leave it be?

Remove gasket and use 3 Bond, Hondabond, or similar.
The bearing clearance will be excessive with a gasket
DON'T use silicon RTV 'gasket maker' from autoparts store, it breaks off and blocks oilways

Thank you sir,

Ill be sure to grab some hondabond from the dealer on my way home.

Quick question about my battery box relocation. Should I just mount it to the swing arm or keep going with my modified battery box? I'm afraid that ocne I weld the old tool box mounting bracket to the battery box it sticks out and doesn't leave much room for tire movement and probably won't be able to get my rear plastic splash guard back on

Too much vibration isn't good for batteries. Swingarm mounting isn't usually a good idea.

I have battery mounted off toolbox bolt holes, just make sure it's moved to right far enough for chain to miss it (mistake I made first time, working with bare frame)
I cut a section out of the splash guard, tyre has plenty of clearance (but, I used 7A/hr battery)

Very nice, I was following your thread along, the 360 came out beautifully. I think that's where I got the idea in the first place. But I was hoping to keep my original 12v12amp battery but I guess it may be too big. I should have just started a build thread with all work I’ve been doing on this thing. So much for clean it up and ride the hell out of her.
