CB360 Rims WM3 and WM4

Treesus

Probably not sane.
I know PJ and probably a few others have put WM3 rims up front on their 360's, but I can't seem to find any 18" WM3 2.15 36-hole rims that are unflanged. I'm really not a fan of the flanged style. First question, does anyone know of the source for a rim that size? (Other than Buchanans, which I can't afford at close to $300 a pop) Or does anyone have one they want to part with?

Follow up question. Has anyone put a WM4 up front on a 360 without swapping forks/yokes? I am putting a polished aluminum WM4 from MikesXS on the rear (fits easily due to swingarm mods)

I've done quite a bit of measuring. The top of the brake caliper hinge is the closest conflicting part as far as clearance goes. (I'm not worried about the fairing at all because it is easy to fabricate a custom mount for the thing. I've already done it twice.)

If the rim is 3.25" wide(outside), without any changes I think there would be about .10" clearance between that piece and the rim which is not enough, however a little grinding on the corner could easily fix that up to a .25" I think. It does not go high enough to interfere with the tire. Even if it would fit, I have my doubts about a rim that wide would look up front, but... I'm stuck on ideas.

Does anyone have a WM4 rim they can measure the total width of for me?

Anyhow, ideas, input, questions...go.

36 hole WM3 rims are about the easiest thing in the world to find, e-bay is overrun with them as they are fitted to just about all pre-2005 MX bikes
You will need nipple washers though (I make them to use MX rims with road spokes)
Isn't the WM4 from Mikes a 16"? (no it isn't, I forgot, I have an 18" here ::) )

Ok. I didn't realize MX rims could be used. That opens up quite a few options.

Nipple washers? Are you hammering flat washers with something to make them conical?

Yup. Mikes has a very perty 18" WM4 that I think will look very nice sitting in the rear of my bike. Just too bad all the WM3s with the correct specs are shouldered.

Yep, I was hoping he would do a flanged WM4 but only has 'smooth' ones
The nipple holes are bigger than street rims, 8mm I think?
It means you cnuse them with disc or drum though and not worry about spoke angle
I've built several wheels using MX rims, pics in my build/blog somewhere ;) (and I think a video somewhere?)

Semi-related question- Because the spokes go to near the center of the rim, even though the rim is wider can I re-use my old spokes? Or is the change still too much? My old spokes are in good condition.

Use the old spokes, I do unless they are too rusty, then I get new stock ones
