cb360 starter grounded to handlebar?

Been Around the Block
Hey guys. I want to put a black handlebar on my 75cb360 but wasnt sure if the starter switch grounds through the handlebar. If that was the case then putting a painted handlebar on may be a bad idea? Thanks much.

Not sure on that one, but I put new wire looms on my harness so I could run the new wires in and used an eyelet to attach to the switch mounting bolt. Ran the new wires to the headlight and tapped into the ground harness in there.

Maybe try scraping the paint off under the switch housings where you won't see it. And under the riser clamps again where you won't see it.

Don't forget the little ground wire that attaches to the bottom side bolt on the rises should you take them out/off.

If you have a headlight on/off switch, then the start button grounds in the handlebar. The later 360, which started in late 76, did away with the headlight on/off switch. In that case, the start switch also controls the headlight on start, and does not ground the start, but sends 12 v to the solenoid. If you ground the later model, you will short and burn something, or if luckier, just blow fuse.
