cb360 valve question

Currently in the process of rebuilding the top end. We had unfrozen the engine, cleaned it up, changed gaskets, and got everything back together. Then found out we were missing compression out the left piston. Find out its a bent valve :(

Picture came out kinda wierd but you see the little bastards issue.

Well since it was bent in the worst spot, we had to tap it out and the guide didnt like that at all.

Split right at the retaining ring...

From what I can assume, the guides just float in the head and stay in with that retaining ring since the valve just slides through it being held in place by the springs and valve head. If they do just float can I replace the guide with guide from another bike with a similar size? I'm having a hard time finding a reasonable replacement (one for 30 bucks + shipping on ebay :-\ ). I'm getting a set of valves for just shipping from one guy already but I just dont see someone with extra guides laying around.

Im sending you the valves, I can send you this complete spent head as well if you want and you can just pound the guides out of it. It's just taking up room in my shed.

That would be great, it wasnt too hard tapping it out just had to get the build up in the ports loosened up

The guide should be about 0.004" interference fit into head.
Head usually needs to be heated to around 325deg F to remove guide, if it came out easy something is wrong.
You need a valve guide driver to remove or fit guides and have to be careful not to install too deep or they crack around circlip groove
(I can explain why but it needs drawings and a lot more typing than I'm prepared to do)
Guides do not 'float' in the head.
It's pretty easy to make a guide if you know anyone with a lathe, bearing bronze is only couple of bucks an inch for 5/8 dia and it's really straightforward turning, drilling, reaming
Not sure if 4 cyl Goldwing valves are same stem diameter?
If so, oversize guides are available.
Normally I would offer to make one but I'm just too busy at present
It will probably be easier (and possibly cheaper?) to find a 'new' head, they do come up on eBay for 30~60 bucks, just check cam bearings are good

I wouldnt say it just came out easy, it took a while with a mallet and tap. But thanks for clearing it all up on the assembly of it, we werent sure other than knowing it was toast. I may just go with dirtbags old head then since it sounds like its in fine shape and my cam looks fine, motor only has 6k miles on it. So far only had the frozen piston and this valve issue so i havent had to replace anything i didnt want to up until now.

I should have some guides you can have. I just had my head rebuilt with larger valves and new guides and he sent back a baggy full of the old parts. I'll look tonight after work.

Hmm well after looking it all up this morning, it might be easier just to get the whole new head unit overall. Its just heating the head and chilling the guide but i dont have a driver like crazypj says to use, and just driving it in without one i dont have a way to set it at the correct depth Unless someone has a trick to it. Ill take a look on some sites again today for full heads.
