CB400F Tank rubber - How stretchy?

How elastic should the rear tank rubber be? I bought a new reproduction tank rubber, and I can't get the tank on at all.

Send it back?

No don't send it back they are all that way. Get a bottle of wintergreen oil, soak in it over night, then you'll be golden. Trust me, keep working in old bikes that stuff will come in handy again.

I thought it just sat on the top of the rubber?

Thats not installed neevo, that rubber slides over those two tabs on the frame, then the top strip wraps over the tab on the back of the tank. My bike is at home, I'll snap a pic or two when I get there.

Thanks a bunch, I was going to drill a hole through that tab and bolt it down. Oops.
