cb450 - el perrito

quick update.

I've been riding some and having fun. My AGM/gel battery doesn't like the stock charging system (charges at 12v or so depending on RPM), so I'll be changing the stock mechanical regulator with a solid state regulator from one of the Chinese made scooters (14.5v output at a little over idle)...I'm also going to look for some stiffer springs for the fork tubes...I'll add the tech bits to my build thread when I get it done.

then, as they say - "it's on!"

progressive makes good fork springs... Have them on my dads Shadow... pretty good quality.

Also think about changing to a higher weight oil before changing fork springs- no reason to break the bank if you can get the performance you want from a bottle of oil.

More updates...

I left el perrito over at my regular muffler guy's shop to have a new set of head pipes made up that sweep under the bike. He called today to tell me it's all done. I'll get some photos when I get it back home. Looking forward to seeing/hearing the new setup ;D ;D ;D

I've also been working out all the little bugs here and there and can truly say that this one is REALLY fun to ride on a regular basis - much more so than the last 450 I had.

I will try and get some pics up in a couple of days.

Nice job on the 450. I just picked up one and was thinking about cafeing it, we'll see. Funny you mention the pipe work you just got done-I was wondering how it would look with the pipes coming under the bike after looking at the first few photos. Again, nice bike.

Sorry on the late replies all - still no pics yet. Works been freaking INSANE BUSY.

I'm hoping to get some up soon though.

Dana - I just grabbed a hammer and went at it, you can see in my build thread, or there are several others here that detail it better than I did. IIRC, there is a how-to on you tube.

cheers,
s.
