Cb450 rear suspension riser + driver chain problem...

Coast to Coast
Hi I bought some 10th riser for my hagon on my cb450.

But I found a problem on my drive chain... It almost rub on the swing arm...

So is the stock setup of a cb450 drive chain has a roller of some kind?

If not what type would fit that model?

Thanks.

Not sure what you did, a picture or 2 would probably help....If the chain is rubbing on the swing arm (Assuming at the pivot in front, then maybe your swing arm is traveling too far? There are no rollers on stock CB450's....

A clearer explanation would help...

Hers a few pic... Can you see what I mean now?

Your shocks are too long.

You might be able to alleviate the problem (a bit) with larger front and rear spockets to lift the chain line.

Why did you add the risers? The swingarm is extended past normal travel like that.

The riser raise the bike, shorten the wheel base, reduce trail and rake on the front.

The risers do not add any suspension travel either.

Is there a reason you need the lift?

The reason for the riser is to prevent my beautiful handmade fiberglass seat to hit the wheel... Btdt... I'll remove it and find another solution for it. Thanks.

There won't be a way around it, you will have to modify the seat to allow the wheel travel. The stock set up allowed for rear wheel travel to come up in between the frame rails. That is why when guys modify their CB450's they hoop the rear frame rails giving the hoop an upward kick to maintain the rear tire swing.

Yep that's what I've done but the fiberglass seat comes around the Frame and a little bit lower... I have a hoop now and I've modified the seat but wanted to make sure it doesn't kiss it again... I'll shield it with a steel plate underneath it. ;-)

Thank you... Now I have a brand new set of riser for sell... Anyone?

Never design any type of shield or rub plate to prevent the wheel from full travel. You are asking for trouble or catastrophe that will bite you when you are not expecting.

What I meant is something not made to prevent the full travel, but for OVER travel of the shock...Anyway last time the problem was that the wheel ate the license plate, not the seat. So I redesign the license plate holder of mine.

Here's a pic.

Black is frame and hoop. Red is the talked (License plate holder/shield) Its not mad do shield but it will protect the seat at the same time.

Here's a post of my last problematic setup.

See the problem ;).

Anyway the reloctation of the plate holder was done, all the other stuff around is just to protect it... I've mesure everythiing and everything is pretty much at the right place.

Thanks.
