funny you should ask that, I've been swapping rides between my 550 cafe an the bobber. thinking about the bobber an how good the cafe would be if I could shave 20+ more pounds off. so yes the 40hp twin loves the diet. hell, it almost seems fast... or is it because the high pipes are so f*ckin LOUD. truthfully, it feels like a flat tracker. as for the pipes, I've tried baffling them an the power drop off is insane. me, I like the long low straights the best (but still too loud) in the end, weight is a huge factor. especially with these low hp motors. so the more you loose the more fun in the sun.
 
Wow! What can I say, it just looks right. It has that 60's look about it. I can't quite put my finger on it but it reminds me of the choppers I saw when i was a kid. Black and aluminum. Nice! 8)

it's the stock wheelbase but way lower so, yes it's a blast! if anything it reminds me if an old tt bike. cheers
 
My favorite hardtail conversion. . . . ever. I want the same bike with drag bars and firestones. One day my skills will allow this.
 
Just like the rest of the masses, I love this build.

If I hadn't already made the plans for my 250 to be a street tracker I would have a 2-Stroke bobber this summer. Thanks for inspiring next year's project.
 
I haven't commented on a CB build for a while, but your bike is so sweet. Love the lines and the nifty mounts. Good on ya.

Is that an oil tank or is it for electrics? How wide did you modify the tank?

thank you, thank you.... yep the faux oil tank holds the electrics an one of those tiny batteries. made it out of a peterbuilt air horn tank, had enough left for the lid and the lic plate contraption. an the tank, I guess I cut about an inch an a half wedge out.
 
I just recovered an shaved even more off the biltwell pan. came out sweet thanks to my buddies leather sewing machine. last time I had to hand punch ever hole an then run the tread through, took me something like 4 hours. his new machine is still manual but a thousand times faster. sorry about the image quality got excited an used the phone

This is purely selfish and if you don't feel like it, I totally understand, but could you do a write up on the process you used to hardtail the bike? (and possibly how the tank was painted?). Or just a link dump?

Thanks for the compliment, the tank's easy, I got an airbrush for christmas and just started playing with 1/8 an 1/4" fine line tape from the auto paint store. spray a base, mask, spray some more, maybe mix a color with clear, mask, spray. light block sand...... just have fun. if I do my spare tank I'll try to shoot some steps, but I'm not a pro, I'm just playing in the garage. I'll try an write a detailed account about the frame later. cheers m

Funny thing, if you were to show me each part, I would tell you I don't really care for that, but you put 'em all together & it works. Not sure how, but it does.

Mike...saw your bike on eBay and nearly sh..t my pants. It's caused me to rethink possibilities and imagine other directions for the next build...Thank you very much!
 
Can you share how you fabricated the low straights. There are precious few aftermarket exhaust options for this bike....probably because it was only produced for a couple of years.
 
Would you be interested in doing the same fab work on my frame. Have the model and was thinking on making café but already have a duc monster and would rather make it a bobber. Specially after seen the work you done on yours.
