Not sure what is causing this, but when I'm going down the road it's puking oil through the breather. It did it again on the way to work this morning. I'm going to put a quart of oil in it and get it home, but I'm stumped on what my be causing this.
Hmm....sounds like excessive blowby, but you may want to check the breathers on the head for obstructions. How much do you lose over how much time? Is it a vapor deposit or splashy, oil running off kinda thing?
It's possible, quickest thing would be to do a compression and leak down test.
Some autoparts stores will rent you the tools if you don't have access on your own.
Doesn't sound good however.....
I was hoping he'd get lucky if nobody actually mentioned the bad stuff......yer screwed now sparky!
These old pistons are cast from pretty crumbly "aluminum" and it'd be just as possible that he just plain holed a piston, especially if perhaps the bike was running lean and in stop/go parade type traffic......
good time to rebuild......might as well hop it up while you're in there.
Think this is the first time the worst case senerio WASNT the case.
The breather tube that runs from the rocker boxes was clogged with this milky type shit. I took my primary cover off and the same stuff was everywhere.
I'm thinking the tube clogged so the motor wasn't breathing right, add the fact that I rode in a St. Paddy's Day parade (lot's of stop and go) and that super thinned the oil and along with the motor not breathing, created this goo stuff.
I've been riding the piss outta this bike for 2 seasons and neglecting the routine stuff....
Hot damn! Well, I'm glad your engine isn't pooched.
I do wonder what the "milky substance" is though....love that bike much? HA!
Sounds like you should flush that engine out and go from there. Is it gummy or hardening up?
More like mayonnaise? Could be condensation frothing the oil, but it'd take a lot of condensation.
Beer does a great job of that too.....got some pranksters for buddies?
