CB550 Carb Help

Been Around the Block
I am in the latter stages of my cb550F rebuild.

#1
After buying a set of carbs on ebay (they are extremely gummed up and i don't think they're salvagable) and having the ones that came with the bike (which are completely shot).

I've concluded that I should look elsewhere for a decent set of carbs.

So, does anyone know where I can find a set off another bike that will fit the 74 CB550F or a reasonably priced rebuild kit?

I am running a megaphone exhaust and will be running pod filters. What Size jet can you recommend? and where to get them?

Thanks and pardon my carb ignorance.

Here's a pic of the most current progress.

Hey man, good looking bike.

Unless the body of the carbs are extremely bad, they should be salvaged. I'm working on a 550 rebuild project now and I bought the bike knowing it hasnt run in over 20 years. Needless to say, the carbs have seen better days. They were completely frozen, varnished, gummed up, etc... I was able to save the carbs with a complete disassemble, cleaning and rebuild. I bought 4 carb rebuild kits off ebay i believe, if I remember correctly they were about $50 i think for all. The rebuild kits include the main jet, main needle, idle jet, o-rings, bowl gasket, etc.. The expensive part was that I had to replace all the floats and float pins, they were completely frozen and I actually had to drill out the brass pins from the towers. The only place I could find them was on ebay and they weren't cheap.

Best of luck to you man!
