You think the Carpet Pissers did this?
I was driving to my buddies house yesterday about 15 miles from my house. I was waiting at a light about a block away from his house and without any notice the bike dies I look down and the gauge is dark. I go to look at and fouled connections and everything looks fine. My hunch is its the alternator.
I get it home (a friend helped me tow it) and pull the cover off. The manual says that the field coil should test to 4.6ohms, with the multi-meter set to R x 10. The field coil tests 4.4 ohms but my meter only has R 20:
Then I test the stator coil. Manual says spec is 0.35 +/- 10%. I get the below:
I have two other bikes with the same stator set up so I test those and get the same readings. Something doesn't add up. Either the manual is wrong or my meter is giving me different readings that I can't interpret.
Some more info, I unplugged the alternator from the circuit and the gauges/lights turn on. I plug in the stator coil, they dim and then the field and they go dark again. Also, the battery, as suspected is very low at 10.4 amps.
I have a regulator/rectifier combo unit from DCC. That could be an issue too but i dont know how to test that. I feel confident saying that the bike is not charging but I can't narrow down the culprit. Anyone have any suggestions? Cu the battery be an issue somehow?
