CB550 Front Brake ?

Coast to Coast
Ok...I feel like a complete noob. I have searched the interwebs and tried stuff myself. I am not sure if my pad is stuck or if there is something else holding it in. I removed the small pin on the stationary pad side but cant get the pad out.

How do I get the pad out?

its probably just stuck. try banging on it with wooden/rubber mallet. or LIGHTLY prying up at the edges.

Ok...I have got to be overlooking something. There is a safety pin that I removed from the stationary side pad that held it to the caliper. I have soaked it with WD40, soaked it overnight in a parts cleaner, beat on it with a hammer and even tried prying with various tools. I cannot get the pad to come away from the caliper. There is a small round cylinder at the top of the pad but I am assuming that it is part of the caliper and orients the pad.

Please help!!!

I had the same problem with my 78 550. They used a lube to keep the pad from giggling around. All you have to do is blow compressed air into the caliper to blow out the pad. This takes a little time but it will work. If you knock the other side around a little bit the pad should fall out.

pump the brake till it pumps it out... while you are there you can pull out the piston and clean it. also remove the rubber seal, wipe it down really good, then lube it with some ATF, clean the bore it goes into and replace the piston... then you can rev bleed the system... here is how you do that... fill the resivor wiht your brake fluid... put your piston in place and slowly press down on it... (be sure your cap is off your master cyl) press slow so you dont spray brake fluid everywhere... you will see bubbles in the master, once they stop and you get strait fluid your sytem is bled... in reverse... works great! plus it allows you to clean your pistons easily... there is a small plasic washer on the back of the pads that tend to go bad... and stick to the old pad... that is prob what has it on there... i also use high temp pad grease on the back of pads out of habit, does not need it but does not hurt it... while you have them apart. pull off the support arm... pull the pin out and clean it, then use some marine grease or honda grease on there... will be like brand new brakes (just di a set last night so it is fresh in my mind)

I had this issue this week. I was able to remove the pad from the side that does not have a piston. It was tough i used a small screwdriver and some pb blaster to break the rust down. the pad will be worthless then. Now I could not remove the pad from the piston side of the caliper. The damn thing is 1/2 inch thick. Alot of surface area to get stuck. I soaked it in pb for days with no luck.i used compressed air and every other thing i could think of. I ended up drilling a hole through the center of the pad.tapping the hole and inserting a bolt into the hole then putting the bolt in the vice to hold it. I had to smack the shit out of in order to free it up. Now a guy could use that tapping technique and make a puller of sorts.with a piece of pipe bigger than the pad and piece of flat stock on top of the pipe and a nut.i was being lazy. and pissed
