CB550 Kick Start Spins Free

You think the Carpet Pissers did this?
Hey Guys, really trying to get the bike started this weekend but Im running in to an issue. When trying to adjust the tappets I realized I cant get the bike to TDC for 1&4 turning the nut securing the points (i have Dyna S ignition). It locks just before TDC for 2&3 but never actually gets there, getting stuck before. If I try to roate it back the other way... it gets stuck before it gets to 1&4. It's like it only spins half way. :::edit:::I figured this out.

Here the main issue still...

Then I tried to to crank it with the kick starter but that is just spinning as if I have the clutch pulled in... I did change the clutch plates today. Could I have tightenedd the springs too much?

I can take a video if needed. Anyone have any experience with this?

Re: CB550 Kick Start Spins Free and Cant turn to TDC

Yes, adjust your clutch plate tension.

Just another word on this. I remember when I had the clutch basket off that the spindle would turn freely as well as the kickstarter. With the bike in gear, it will spin the tire but...

Tell me how you fixed the cam timing issue where the valves appear to have been touching the pistons. You are coprrect that on Japanese bikes, you don't adjust spring tension the way we had to on Brit bikes. Is your clucth slipping or dragging? you say slipping but sounds like it's not lifting properly.

I lifted the cam chain across the gear a few times until the notch on the right side of the cam lined up with the surface of the valve head (per the manual) and the points indicator showed TDC for 1-4 as well.

Im not sure. I have the cable hooked up and I can pull the clutch but the issue persist. The thing that keeps getting me is that I could do this with the basket off in it's entirety. So maybe its something internal (which I hope its not).

Could it be something where I need to have the bike roll forward a bit in gear for it to engage again? Simple thought but you never know...
