CB550 Upper Fork Cover

So I'm doing a build on a CB550. Below the first triple tree, where the stock fork ears and mounts are - is pitted over pretty bad. I'm looking for some alternatives to new fork tubes / rechroming. Perhaps like a metal or plastic fork cover for 35MM forks, or anything like that. Something fairly minimal. Not opposed to fork ears for a headlight or just tubes with then a bottom mounted headlight, just want to cover it up. Most important thing is that it would fit in the space between the first triple tree and the middle one. Any ideas?

Black fork gators like on a dirt bike that are cut down could give that scrambler look...lots of generic sources out there. Maybe get a close enough match for the 550's lower gators. Maybe try wandering around Home Depot a bit...take the fork or an exact replica to check diameters of stuff while there. I bet you could find some black tubes you could cut to length...maybe a shop vac (smaller version) extension tube that can be cut to length. Maybe some carefully cut black corrugated drainage hose in the right diameter might look cool. Thin wall ABS pipe? Lots of ways to get creative. Maybe give the ears a good sanding and a coat of paint? If the ears are pitted badly, use a texture paint like spray undercoating or Rustoleum "hand hammered" finish. That stuff can hide a multitude of sins if that look goes with your build.
