Been Around the Block
Hello I am looking at purchasing a 76 CB550 F($650). The bike ran strong a year ago but the PO began having electrical problems. he said the fuse block is melted a bit . He believes its either the horn or headlight as all other electrical works. Other that that this bike is cherry! All advice welcome. P.S. My intentions are to use it as a daily driver and work on my other cafe bike.

Thats a great price and a real steal!!..

Every cb550 that Ive encountered, (my 75 550F included), had problems with the back of the fuse box melting. Its because of the location of the fuse box just infront of the rear wheel behind the plastic mudguard and the fact that the soder connections are open and exposed.

Grime and shit from the rear wheel splashes onto the connectors and over time causes resistance at the fuse box, eventually causing it to melt and shorting out some of the wires...

I replaced my fuse box with rubber insulated blade boxes and had no problem after that...

You might have to track back a few wires to look for melted or crispy plastic, then replace and insulate with dual-walled shrink tubing.

Also, the regulators on those things have a tendency to go... Keep a spare on hand..

Good luck!!.. its a great bike

Thanks LOCO! I might miss the boat on this one. Theres another guy lookin at it today which of course due to family obligations, I am unable to do so if its available tomorrow? It's mine! If not well I guess back to Craigies!!!!!

I never had that problem with my '76 CB550F. But regardless, $650 for a nice 550F is a good price. Hope you get it, but if you don't, there's lots more out there.

MISSED IT! F$*&!!!!!!! The owner said that when the guy laid eyes on the bike he couldn't get the cash out quick enough. POST DEAD!

oh man, the one out by Cortland?

sorry to take it away from a fellow do the toner. If your ever cruising through Ithaca, let me know.

Nice pick it sounds like Jimi! The PO said once the guy(you) laid eyes on it he couldn't get the money out quick enough. Hope to see pics soon!
