Have been working through changing switch gears and starter buttons and trying to work out if the battery failing to charge properly is down to the silicon rectifier. A number of things have happened which I think might be causing me a problem:
Shorted a make shift starter button against the frame, which blew the fuse and I think the silicon diode (seems some people call this the rectifier, but in this case it is the one in the starting circuit and not the charging) I have checked for continuity on this, but no cigar in either direction. Think I blew that with the starter button short. Not too bad to swap as pretty low cost.
Now comes the big one. I have been running through the checks in the manual and it says I should get continuity between the pins for the silicon rectifier. These are the 3 yellow ones and the Green, yellow&white. Looking at the diagram I should get continuity one way between green and yellow/white. I have tried both ways, but nothing. I have tried from one of the yellows in either direction, but again nothing.
All testing has been done with the rectifier removed, as shown in the manual. Am I missing something, or is it just *&^%ed? looking on line, a new replacement is $300 ish. that is nearly more than i paid for the bike. are there any after market products?
