CB750 front brake caliper bracket? Help please

Been Around the Block
My bike is pretty well done (minus paint) except for my front brake! I have a 76 CB750k, but I think my brake caliper is off a different model or year because when I bought my new piston and brake pads I remember having to return them and get different ones.

Anyways, the bracket between the two pads is just too narrow. When screwing the bolts through, they bottom out and there is still about an inch before its all tight.

My bike is at the shop right now so no pic, but this is of my friends 360. What I'm talking about is circled. Mine is not that thick, thus causing both sides of the brake to kind of hang there and not be able to function properly.

Could I just add a spacer or something to mine to make it the appropriate thickness? All the schematics I've looked at online have shown the front brake bracket in question as being 1 thick piece like the 360 pictured, no where did I see one that used two pieces. Thanks guys
