CB750 Hiding the oil reservoir

Hi all,

I need to reach out to the cafe community to get word on if this is possible, and the best way to proceed.

I have recently picked up 2 cb750's. I am building out a cafe racer with this as my inspiration:

Except mine will have the CycleX intake/carb setup, their 4-2-1 system. and I will go with a red frame silver tank, headlight bucket paint scheme.

My question is how can I achieve the bare look in the center section like this 550? I emailed cafemotoworks thinking "Ruby" was a 750, they promptly emailed back educating me.

How can I pull that bare look off on a 750?

no matter what, it will be a custom job. If you're good with that... read on.
You can do a custom elongated gas tank with the oil tank occupying the last 1/4, or you can do what i am doing/have done and build a custom tank that sits here: (its the one in front of the carbs, the other houses the electricals)

this is an older pic. My tank is finished now , just dont have a pic yet.

Get a small tank of some sort, stick it up under the tail, and run braided stainless lines to/from the motor along the frame and under the seat. It will actually work as an oil cooler as well.

Could probobly make this work: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CUSTOM-HARLEY-OR-TRIUMPH-OIL-TANK-CHOPPER-NO-RESERVE_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3a57071e83QQitemZ250568187523QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Or have a radiator shop weld one up for you from alum that will fit. Just make sure whatever you do it holds at least the stock volume or more.

Will the stock oil pump be able to pump the oil up that distance/height?

You can make anything work if you really want to but if you use the stock tank in its original configuration under a seat bump, you will look like your riding a camal. Its way to tall. And buy the time you modify it to work , you could have just done a custom build to get what you really want.

Sadly, the cb750 is not an easy bike to hide the tank and electricals on. not without a lot of custom work. lemme know if i can offer you any other advice.

Hey Tim,

Thanks for the help, much appreciated!

I think you may have misinterpreted what I meant. I am not going to use the stock oil tank in the bump. I'll build a custom one.

What I asked is: Will the stock oil pump be able to pump the oil up that far.

Wow! I must have been really tired! Totaly missed that... = )
Anyway, yea the stock pump would be fine. I have seen a few other 750's with the oil tank in that location. Where will you put the electricals?

Exellent example. Thanks!

I'll be putting my electrics under the part were my butt will be :) I made a custom harness that just powers what I need. Felt good to throw out what felt like a mile of wire.

Good day today, new harness and Dyna DS-2 electronic ignition installed :)

How about a wire diagram!

I used this diagram. But I used a more modern fuse holder.
Oh an no horn...I'll take pics of what I've done thus far and post them!

"Back together"

Waiting on my clip ons, CycleX Dual carb setup, CycleX 4-2-1 Exhaust. Roc City Cafe Seat, Benjie's 7" Euro headlight. New -2 fork tubes from CycleX. I'll be ditching the clubmans and the visor. Those came on the bike.

I'll be doing tank fabrication this weekend. I am excited too see how it turns out.

Parts that have shown up thus far.

Okay more progress!

My seat has arrived, and I started fabrication work on the tank. Now onto the pics.

Rough cuts this was terrifying being the first time attempting anything like this.

Checking out how one side looks before I move on to final welds and the other side.
I am happy with it!
