CB750 Late start, but here we go...

Been Around the Block
So I'm terrible with keeping up with things on here, but I'm decided I'll start a build thread for my CB750 even though I'm actually almost done with it. I've taken pictures the whole time, but just never got around to starting a build thread.

Before anyone says it, I know it looks somewhat like a limo, but it really isn't as long as it looks. I got the entire rear end for almost nothing and wanted to put it on because I thought it'd look good and just to see if I could.

The bike started off as a 1978 CB750K8. The CB750 is a bike I have wanted since I was a little kid, But unfortunately 4 months after I finally got finally got one I managed to get into a wreck on the highway that totaled the bike. Now that I'm out of college and have time to do real work in the garage I have started rebuilding/customizing it. The biggest mods so far have been the '06 GSXR front end and the '90 Honda Hawk rear end as well as ever thing that goes along with them.
Most of this project as consisted of just seeing what I am able to do, as it is my first real project aside from my little '72 CB350 cafe rat I ride jump around town on.

I'll have more up in a little bit of the previous steps up to this point, but here a picture of everything so far...

Aside form "it's really long" or "it's not going to handle well", please let me know what you think! it is a one sided swingarm. I just didn't have a good picture from the right of what it look like right now.

its really long and akward looking
it will go straight, that is all
cornering clearance looks to be at a minimum, but it aint built for corners
the top shock mount will for sure need bracing in the vertical plane
looks like the rear wheel travel will exceed clearance to the seat hoop
in summary just because you can doesn't mean it is a good idea
oh and those pods are shit you are losing hp with then they are too small and restrictive
i dont like it at all not one thing about it,you ruined a perfectly good old honda motorcycle
you could have made a much better motorcycle using the existing platform and doing simple upgrades

I think the OP was only looking for positive comments.
Jee and this is the nice forum....

Here is what it started as...

First thing I did to start the build was pull the engine and rebuild. Most of the damage from the wreck was to the crank case and the fins on the cylinder head.

can you upload some pictures of that upper shock mount?

Here are the pictures I have of the suspension mount. I have added a part between the two tabs to keep them from being pushed out, but I don't have a picture of it yet. I'll get some better pictures of the finished mount once I get by home later today.

Positive comments are nice, but negative comments are just as helpful haha.

In terms of the length, it really isn't too much longer than stock. It looks longer in the picture than it really is.
As far as the clearance for the rear wheel goes, I have already bent the frame up a little bit to allow more clearance.
The pods seem to be fine. If the carbs starts to have trouble breathing I'll rethink, but for now it is running just fine.
I don't think I really ruined the bike at all. It most certainly was not a "perfectly good old Honda". If anything ruined he bike I think blame would need to be pointed toward the highway it slid down on its side at 70mph.

Thanks for the comments! I'll put more pictures up soon.

but definatelly run some vertical struts from the frame side tubes above the swinger pivot area up to the top shock mount the way it is now is to flexy and will fail
you have well over 1000lbs variable loads constantly working on that upper mount
and directly down on the swinger pivot trying to tear the bike apart
the frame was never designed for those loads in those directions
just make sure you clear the chain on the left

Looks bad as hell (like Michael Jackson bad, not frayed spark plug wires bad). What kind of length did you add? Looks like about 5-6"
