cb750 triple tree

Been Around the Block
Hey guys,

Just got my clip ons, now I'm looking to clean up the top clamp of my triple tree. I've got a '78 cb750f, and the risers for the handlebars are hollow, which means I can't shave them without leaving big awkward holes behind.

I've seen other cb750's successfully shaved, which makes me think earlier models were not hollow. Anybody know if that's the case? And if so, will they fit a '78 as a straight across trade?

Or has anybody seen a nice cnc triple clamp out there? I've been looking, just not finding.

I think it's easier to get the holes welded up.
Early ones still had bolt holes going through them

I've got a 75 CB750 and I shaved my triple tree down just fine. Not sure if the older ones are hollow all the way through. If i were you I'd just shave em. Worst case you'll have to get a new one anyways. Might as well start cheap!

Another easy option you could try is to fill the holes with plaster/bondo and then sand smooth and spray the triple black. I didn't fill mine since I didn't need to but I did spray them flat black and they look great. Might try that as it will be a lot cheaper then buying those pricey after market trees. Could also just try to find a used Tree from a 75 like mine and be good with a grinder. Good luck!

I went ahead and shaved the mounts, and even though it isn't what I was looking for originally, I might just let the slots show. There's enough aluminum to remain structural. This is what I've got so far:

Dude that looks awesome! I really like the structural gaps, it looks like it was meant to be that way. If it were mine I would just finish sanding the piece and leave it a brushed metal look. Looks insane!

Sorry to revive an old thread but I've got the same issue. Does anyone offer a billet option for the CB750F?
