cb750k advice

1976 cb500t
wanting to know about the cb750k im looking into buying a 74cb750k anyone have any words of wisdom on this topic? I already own a cb500t wanting to go bigger.

maybe I'll catch hell for this but whatever... I think the sohc cb750 is over valued at the moment. I think there are good offerings from yamaha, suzuki and kawasaki in that displacement and age range that will be cheaper. If I had to do it over again, I probably wouldn't have gone with a DOHC 750 myself... I find myself coveting everybody's xs650s to be honest.

I found a 74 for a 1000 all cafe out with the seat pan bars and what not just tryin to figure out if its worth it

If you can get one at a good price, and it's what you want, go for it... It's still a good bike. Tons of parts available for it and lots of knowledge to go around. http://forums.sohc4.net/ is a great resource.

Pics would help out ..........alot! We all like pics! ;) but most important, motor, how many miles, any leaks, clutch, how does it shift, tires&rims are the straight and true and what condition are the tires any weather check, unusually wear, front forks, swing arm, exhaust what condition is it in any rust, holes etc, how's the seat, how's the charging system, the brakes? There are a lot of variables. We should come together as a forum and create a check list for newbs to down load and copy so they have a outline of what to look for. We all could use it, heck I still get buck fever out in the tree stand. My heart starts racing, palms get sweaty, and I don't want to forget to just be patient don't rush, well I still get those same feelings when I go to look at a new project motorcycle. I don't want to forget to complete a inspection off the whole bike and know what I am getting into for the dough I am laying down. Heck a bike is worth what its worth in your mind and the owners, you just need to meet somewhere in the middle.

Oh yeah I feel the same way as flatcurve. They have become overvalued to a certain degree. More and more aftermarket, magazines and a tv show make people think they have a goldmine rotting away in their barns, imo

For a grand, it should run, stop, turn and all electrical should be in shape. If it's not, lowball him and steal it for 50-60% of asking price. I agree with the previous posts about the CB line being overpriced right now. Everyone wants to sell it for possible value instead of actual condition value.

A good bike for $1000 is a steal but like mentioned above only you can determine if it's the right price for you.

I bought two for $1100. one was a basket case nearly complete (missing the triples) the other was running with a dyna ignition and accell coils. the basket case had been powdercoated. i can tell you everything lately seems overpriced.

One of the only advantages I can see for buying the SOHC CB750 is there are tons of aftermarket parts for them.
Compared to the 1981 DOHC CB750K I have it's hard to find anywhere as many parts as the SOHC version.
There are so many bolt on parts for that bike it's almost criminal.

If the engine will run and it has an ownership theres a good chance that a grand isn't a bad price. Running bikes can be had almost any day of the week for under $1500 in resonably good shape.
