Well, they told me it couldn't be done.....rebuilding the leaking fuel petcock. YOu see, this particular petcock is riveted together. You can only replace the 1980 to 1982 CB900 custom petcock. HA! I beg to differ......I came across this site in my desperation to rebuild my petcock. I refused to pay the astronomical amount that there little damn things are bringing in. The web site is: http://home.iprimus.com.au/ianfox/rebuild/rebuild.htm
What I did was drill the rivets out, open the petcock, and flip the rubber gasket over. It looked like something had gotten i there and chewed up one side of the gasket. This is just to hold me over until the replacement part from a Petcock Rebuild kit for a 1973-77 XS650, or a 1970-72 XS1 XS1b XS2 comes in. I was able to get the part I needed for........$7.00. LOL!
So, after I drilled them out, I obtained Stainless Steel Socket cap bolts (the round ones that require an Allen key). I threaded them into the soft aluminimum. They made their own threads, and she seals up TIGHT. NO LEAKS. I took it apart 3 or 4 times, still no leak. Just thought I'd share.
