Centrifugal Filter cap.

I'm rebuilding, well starting a rebuild on a CB 360, I've gotten to the point where I have to get the filter off but I cant get the cap to loosen. I've searched the forum and googled but it hasn't told me anything helpful. I have removed the retaining clip inserted a bolt and used an impact but it wont budge, just bends the bolts. I tried tapping on it and prying on it also to no avail. Any thoughts? Thanks

I just did mine. Insert the bolt and pull straight out. There are grooves inside the filter housing.

Correct, as bucky stated.. You don't thread the bolt in and try to get it through the left side engine cover. Just 2"-/+ into the cap and grab it with some pliers and pull it off.

Actually, you turn it in all the way and it acts like a wheel puller, pushes the cap out. They have used that filter for a long time, and for the type it is, it is easy to get apart. Now getting the cup off requires a "special" tool....

I've done several of them but the cap on some of them have four stress relief cuts where the threaded part of the cap is and if you keep turning it the stress reliefs will allow the screw/bolt to keep twisting without popping the cap off. Sometimes, not all the time, you have to thread it mostly in then pull it out... Then yes, getting the whole basket/cup off you need the "special" castlated socket for the nut. You can make your own out of a spare socket or buy the aftermarket socket for about 8 bucks... Don't try to use needle nosed vice grips. I've seen a ton of those nuts all boogered up. Do it right and it will be easier later... It should also have a star washer in behind the but to attempt to prevent it from coming loose. If you're careful you can save it, if not, those are readily available as well... Take your time and don't take short cuts, you'll regret it later.

Well, I tried everything. I ended up stripping the treads out I pulled so hard. I just drilled it out and broke the cap off. I have a spare motor that's locked up so Ill just use the cap out of that one. Thanks for all the help. Ill keep you guys posted on my progress. Jess
