Cg125 Scrambler/Brat/Tracker Sort Of Thing

tom050162

Ride Bmx, Race motorbikes.
New project bike ive been given by one of my friends told me to take it seeing as i was having trouble with mine which wa meant to be a spares/Donor bike for my cafe project but instead ive decided to rebuild it and use it was a field type bike. Its an old 6v system and only needs a woodruff, battery to get it going. I currently pinched the woodruff off it to use on my current cacafe cg seeing as it was all battered up and stopping the time so i'll be needing to get one for sure now!

Parts i need to get it rideable:
Clutch lever
Clutch cable
Woodruff Key
Foot Rests
Rear Drum Brake
Rear Wheel Spindle
Kickstart (optional) could just bump it i guess
Exhaust

Watch this space for some updates coming soon!

Tom.

Some quick snaps of her in all her glory (maybe i ought to rephrase that)

just going to be slapping a coat of silver hamerite over the frame and doing the engine in a black vht satin paint i've got laying around. Wheels are most possibly going to be black or silver as theyre rusted to crap at the moment so over the next few days im painting the lot! just going to be a quick neaten up and bolt back together not much modifying to this one, only thing im really looking to change is the tyres and seat other than thats its gonna be stock!

Maybe a quick update later after the frames painted!

Tom.

Your working on that bike looks good....................I'll be following, looking for inspiration, and maybe even lend a hand.

Looks like that type engine would bolt right up to my frame.........

I have a CB100 that I finally got the head and cylinder off the seized piston. Looks like another engine should be in my future.

Thanks for looking man!

Ive got the tank painted, side covers painted, Swing arms painted. Just waiting for the frame to dry over night while im out and then tomorrow give it a second coat and that should be it for me!
Probably clean up the engine and get it painted tomorrow, same applies for shocks and other such parts!

I think the best bet for your cb100 would more than likely be to look for a chinese 125 engine, i know what your thinking the chinese stuffs crap right? but they can receive a 150 bolt on barrel and piston with no modifiying search up Erskine on here and he'll be more than easy be able to persuade you to get one!b I would have done the same if my engine had been shot! Theyre great little runners and with the added displacement they become even better, performance wise theres not a great deal to be had from them but in fourstrockers the only way is really to increase on the displacement or go 2 stroke but i'm not a big fan of them!

But back to the point a chinese engine should bolt into the frame pretty easily if in doubt than just drop a message to erskine he'll be able to give you some dimentions i'm sure.

Tom.

Hey, thanks Tom, appreciate the info.

Looking.................may pm erskine.......

Jack

yeah it should really just bolt into your frame with a little luck!
Where abouts are you located in the US?

Just a little update on the whole build got the swing arm, tank, frame and rear wheel painted up not sure if im going to spray the wheels over with a black satin finish i was thinking it might look a little neater but afterall i'm not exactly going to be rebuilding to a high level just tidying it up so im not sure.
Anyway heres the pictures!

Located in Georgia............you?

Frame and wheels look nice.....think I may go with the silver on my frame too..........................

I'm still, in the wtf do i do about an engine phase or do I just scrap it.

Haven't messaged Erskine yet. But, will soon. I'm thinking my engine might be rebuildable.

The bottom end seems to rotate fairly freely. Say that 3 times fast. Looks pretty good inside there too.

Maybe just need a new cylinder, piston, and rings.

Its probably just a case of taking the head off and spraying a load of WD40 onto it and heating it up with some map gas, or turbo gas then giving it a bit of persuasion with a hammer and a block of wood. Then it'll more than likely come free and then all you'll need is new rings and a re bore of the barrel then it should be fine when its done! :)
While youve got the head off its worth either replacing the valves of cleaning them up and regrinding them in, a neat little trick with the re-grinding is to use a cordless drill and put it through the valve seat and give it a blast round lapps them in really well.
Remember to go clockwise and counterclockwise to get a good seat!
Hope it helps!
Tom.

So i threw it together quickly today to have a play omn the snow. With some parts off my other bike which is out of action anyway due to a leaking crankshaft seal! Footpegs, exhaust, rear brake and spindle are now on this bike!

Need to get some high rise scrambler bars for it too look anywhere decent also some form of mmud guards and new tyres.

Heres how it stands currently, being a bitch to start all the time very intimitent I have to say I'm looking into putting a srambler pipe on it if i can find one that fits i was thinking maybe getting one off a cg copy engine that is fitted to some pit bikes. would have to be the upright style engines though otherwise it wouldnt fit !

I'll be watching this with interest, as we never got the CG125 in NA. That said, I have a few CG200 and CG230 motors, and they've been terrific. They're Chinese, but they have been very relaible with only a shifter seal leak to deal with. Set the valves once in awhile and enjoy.

I bet that a CG200 would fall into place in a CG125 frame. I wonder how freaked out the MOT guys would get. ;D They would be a good solution for electrics as well, as they're 12V.

Just got the mudguard sorted on the front, all bodged up cut with the grinder you know the deal! need to look for a substantial one though when i get round to getting it on the road if i ever do! :) Are they the lifan lumps your talking about? I've heard of them in 150's but I never knew they ever made a 200 or 230 i think it would put out around 13-14bhp if set up correctly would be a nice bolt on for my other cafe when ive put a few miles into it seeing as i'm not even old enough to do my CBT on it yet ;D

I'm going to be looking for a old cg pipe or chinese one i can chop up and make into a high scrambler pipe for it and then i'll just wrap it and call it a good un ;)

Just set the valvs in mine today and it kicks over much better they were way out! Needed opening uop big time no wonder it was a pig to start haha!

For a days building it from scratch wasnt too bad it was in parts on friday when i heard about the snow it had to come together i've got to have a toy to play with right? just need some new rubber in the form of some off road tyres some nice knobblies want it to look like a desert sled type scrambler like the bonnevile has been with scrambler bars and nice big tyres ;D

so heres the picture of it with the mudguard hacked!

Yes, Lifan is one of the names, but I think the Zongshen is a better product. It doesn't really matter though, because they're all the same design. Since I've never had my hands on a CG125, I don't know what size the case is bored out to for the cylinder. If it is large enough, it might just accept the CG200 cylinder, which has a 63.5mm bore. Since the CG125 has a 56.5mm bore and a 49.5mm stroke, you'd end up with a 157cc displacement with the stock crank.

You could also use a CG230 cylinder with a 67mm bore, and that would give you 175cc. Again, I don't know if the case would accept the cylinder, but it seems reasonable. Either option is asking a little more from the stock brakes, but not an unreasonable amount.

Here's an example of a new CG200 cylinder: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Cylinder-kit-Honda-63-5mm-Piston-CG200-196cm3-200cc-Air-Cooled-Engine-4-Stroke-/180903242201?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a1eac69d9&vxp=mtr

BTW, the CG200 is closer to 16bhp.

Thats the issue I had with my other cg when looking into fitting a bore kit it involved getting the crank mouth bored out by 3mm or something and everyone I spoke to about it said theres a chance of hitting an oil way. So I decided to opt out of that plan and instead just put a standard head back on and get her running as good as was possible! ive heard of people doing it but I wasnt really too bothered as upping it by 25cc didn't really give it much more top end just increase in tourqe!

But I would love to get my hands on a cg200 to drop into my other bike I think it would make a great improvement if you say it makes around 16hp i'm lucky to get around 12bhp out of this little stinker! But then again it is pretty much bullet proof as long as it gets regular oil changes and what not. I'd love to put an rs125 into it ;) now that would be some fun and shock some people no doubt it.

might posssibly be a future project for me if i get the time and money to throw at such a daft idea ;D

How much are those engines going for over in the states? I know you can pick up a cg125 engine for around £50-120. One other thing which would be good is to have a OHC engine seeing as i'd possibly be able to rev it a little higer than with an OHV!

Tom.

The last two dirt bikes I bought had CG230 engines, and I paid $100 each for the entire bike. Nobody here recognizes the motor, and if they can't make it run, it's not worth much. One of the bikes donated an engine for my son's '83 XR200R, and it has been a great move. The other motor is destined for a supermoto project that I have in mind.
