trying to get some engine work done, need to get the cam chain broken apart, will a regualr hand held chain breaker tool do the job? or is it some specific tool i need to buy? thanks

what kind of bike?

A chain breaker is generally way too big to get in there.

Your best bet is usually to dremel off the side of one link and hit it through with a punch.

You don't need to split the cases to replace the cam chain. If I'm not mistaken the Honda's had master links in them - have you looked for one? Reason I think that is when I replaced my first XS650 endless cam chain I seem to recall getting a master link from Honda. Could be mistaken.

You just thread in a new cam chain by tying the new to the old and pulling it through. Worth doing if you've got the head off. Cam chain, guides if they're worn etc. Valve seals...

well im reading through the manual and it is definitely a small hand held chain breaker, and you press out the link.. its not a master link that can be disconnected.. then it is showing a cam chain pincher to reassemble it? it is one specific link, in the book it describes the side of the link being a different color than the rest, which i found the other day while looking at it. so i got the chain breaker, looks like it will work fine, but now im just wondering what in the world a cam chain pincher is.. so im assuming i cant use the breaker and press it back together?
