Cheap Vietnamese seats

Coast to Coast
Just a heads up. If you're thinking about buying those cheap Vietnamese seats off eBay, specifically through the seller hondaclassic31 (Also known as Honda Motorcross and Classic Bikes out of Irvine, CA) I would highly advise against it. As most things in life, you get what you pay for. The seat I got for my CB350 was cheap all the way around. Cheap non-marine grade vinyl, cheap threading and cheap foam that was actually about 3-4 ply. The only thing worse than the actual item is the customer service. Again, it shouldn't have come as a surprise. To top it all off eBay removed my negative feedback. Seems that they like to protect the people that make them money even if it means screwing over sellers.

At any rate, use my experience as a cautionary tale. Spend the extra money (after shipping it's probably negligible) and get it done right locally. Now I gotta let the Paypal dispute work for me so I can get a refund from this liar. In the end, I should have known better but thought maybe things would work out as they should. Wrong! haha

I think I'm done with eBay. Too many people selling crap masqueraded as quality items.

I bought one last year for my KZ from them and it's held up okay. The vinyl is DEFINITELY really delicate and didn't fit my pan as described, which I had to trim. It hasn't seen too much sun as my bike's covered or in my garage. Sorry for the bad experience, sux!

I got a full seat from that seller back in May. So far my only problem with it was a little bit of stitching coming undone on the underside of the pan at one of the seams. Luckily I caught it before it got bad and was able to stop it from spreading. I guess I was one of the lucky ones because you're not the first to post on getting the shaft by that seller.

I had seen some really positive and really negative reviews of the seats before I got mine and I was really nervous waiting the 3 weeks it took to get it. Luckily mine turned out good. One thing I read about the guy, after I had already ordered, is that if there is a problem he'll string you along with excuses and promises until it's past PayPal's 45 day limit and then he'll tell you he has no record of your transaction. I read another guy saying that he got the wrong seat from the guy and sent it back for the exchange and he never sent the correct one back, he was screwed out of his original purchase plus had to eat the return shipping . Not saying this will happen to everyone since it didn't happen to me, along with other people I've seen on the forums whohave gotten good seats. I'm happy with my seat from them but if I had to do it again I'd go with getting something from a local upholsterer.

Yep, dude is a shady fuck. I'll get my money back through PayPal but he's taking his sweet time replying to their query. I strongly advise anyone considering ordering from him to steer clear. I got a quote from a local upholsterer for about the same price as his crappy seat but with WAY better materials.

You get what you pay for. Lesson learned.

I have paid. I did request a custom seat. The seatpan needed modified, (shortened on the tail) and tuck and roll with red stitching. We corresponded back and forth for a week getting the design right. I don't fault him for that, as it was my idea of what I wanted, and communicating it properly to him; which just took time.

I'll post some pics when it arrives. As of now, it hasn't shipped. I'll be dropping him a note today to check on the status of my order. I'm literally waiting on my seat to show up to do a shakedown on my bike. I haven't rode my project yet. :-\

Now he emailed me off of eBay and told me that when I return the seat he's still not refunding me. Said he'll "making trouble" (his words, not mine) for me if I don't close my Paypal dispute. This guy (he goes by "Eric") is a whacko!! Buyers beware.

you guys seem to be experiencing similar problems as the vintage vespa community, in terms of dealing with shady southeast asian suppliers. sometimes, they are the only ones making certain parts after the european sources run dry. You never really know what you're going to get in the mail. Sometimes it's a reasonable sand cast copy of an original part, or sometimes it's a hand formed chunk of metal.

The owner/moderator of forum, Modern Vespa, has been sent MANY MANY MANY threatening letters because comments made on his site (not even by him) mention the poor quality or absurdity of their products. The forum moderator even made a macro for the site that automatically replaces the name of that shop with "[redacted]". I know there are quality people in Vietnam building quality parts, but i don't think many of them are getting exported. The majority of the stuff that shows up on ebay is junk.

None of this is directed at Viet, the forum brother that makes rear sets.
