bad assed, super fast and fully gassed
What's up all, new to the forum and so far i love it. I didnt think that there were that many cafe fans in Ohio. Pleasently suprised and can't wait to swap stories and tricks!!

My current personal ride is a 77 'Zuk GS750 I love it. Got all the easy workings of the CB's but the power of a Kaw...best of both worlds... I also have three bikes in the works...early works but i have designs for em...plannin on having at least one done and up for sale by spring, probably the Yamaha XS400. Im always looking for more to toy with too, and maybe someday i'll find one better than my Zuk but im pretty happy with it for now.

Hey, Welcome to the forum.
Im glad you found us!!..
Post some pics of the bikes!!

Cheers

Thanks boyo! And i'll get some snaps up as soon as i get more batteries for my digi cam! Between work, ridding before it gets too damn nasty, and working on the bikes I keep puttin it off lol. But this'll give me some drive to get em up. What kinda beasts you boys stradling?

I'm not on wright patt but just down the road from it. C137's fly over my house every day....and man its loud..haha

Naw...at least not yet... and i dunno if i want a bullet fairing tho. I have seen that bike you are speaking of i think tho. Is it pretty much stock except the fairing and a 4into1? If so i know the one you are talkin about. No mine is far from stock. Cut frame, lowered in the front and slammed in the back (tho im about to change the rear a bit, lil too low for my liking, it's a cool look without my H2 seat on almost bob meets cafe, but gotta raise it up a bit) Paint is a work in progress, i liked where i was going at first, but now it's a little too much bling for me, gonna go back to a more subdued black with a simple gold pinstripe i think. a little classier i guess. At the moment tho i need to figure out my carb issue. it's starting to piss me off. All of my projects are having carb trouble, it seems contagious. Where at in "K-town" you from? I went to HS at Fairmont my jr and sr year...

I live over by the Rec center. I'm pretty sure that's the bike I am thinking of. What kind of carb issues are you having? Is it the jetting or do they need a full rebuild!? I'm pretty good with carbs if you need some help. Gimmie a holla sometime, my first cafe project is just starting, 73 cb450...stripped to the frame right now.

Well, she runs, she's running rich on at least one cylinder im pretty sure. Stumbles a bit at idle. I get white/grey smoke out of the pipe, i've also seen that cylinder puff smoke around the head pipe, and pop thru the pod filter. The plug is black and wet with gas, so its not burning it all, may also be a timing/spark issue there too.. the rest of the plugs however are dry and their colour is decent, maybe a little on the ashy side, my 1 and 4 cylinders seem to be running a little hot, as ive got a bit of bluing around the head pipes at the head. So basicly im pretty confused at the moment. I'm not really great with carbs, it turns into tweak this and tweak that and tweak this again..and i get frustrated fast. I'm prolly going to be doing a valve adjustment on it sometime next week. But im not even sure thats going to help, needs done anyway tho. Gimmie a shout man, we can hook up and turn some wrenches and shoot the shite, i need someone to ride with. Got lots of buddies that ride but they're either old and ride cruisers/tourers or too young punks with crotchrockets that dont have a lick of sense. Dont seem to be alot of cafe fans around these parts..P&G

Are you running points or electronic?

Points at the moment. Gonna switch over to electronic when i tear it apart this winter. Im going to have to check on the dwell it may be off, but even if the timing is off, the 2 and 3 fire off the same, and the 2 isnt wet so im still pretty sure im rich in at least that cylinder.

Well in that case, the first thing I would do is get in there and get the valves adjusted, then move to timing, then adjust the carbs and make sure they are all synched.

Yeah thats pretty much where im at with it. Valve job first otherwise ill be chasing shite allover the place to no avail. Got to have a base and if they're off everything else is pretty much going to be off untill its fixed. Fortunately i am fairly certain my boot rings are in good shape :) so there's a positive. lol God i love these old bikes. they frustrate me to hell and back but thats part of the charm :)

Hey All,

Checking in from the northern parts of Miami County (north of Covington, Ohio just off State Route 48). My first post here. Building a 68 Honda CB500SS cafe special. Ok, Honda never built a 68 500...I started with a 71 450, pushed it up to 498cc (thanks Terry Naughtin of Team Hansen Honda), and swaped the 71 body work for 68 (second version toaster tank). See pics here: http://groups.msn.com/HondaCB450DOHC/rays500ssproject.msnw. Building as a tribute to my father (I have his 1969 Tokyo MC club pin and Japanese license plate to put on the bike). Just sold a 66 Gilera 106SS. Also own a 47 Whizzer.

Looks like a great project and very well executed. Only suggestion I have is to swap out the headlight ears for something more elegant. There's lots of nice cast alloy ones out there to fit 34 and 35mm front ends - yours is a 35?

Yea 35mm...any suggestions on which ones in particular you think would look good? I was going for the lightning hole effect (you can see I have drilled them on the frame, assorted brackets, and places not seen like the chain gaurd, motor, etc.) but I'm open to other ideas. Ray
