Been lurking for a couple weeks and have already gotten some great advice and a few parts so I thought it was time to introduce my self.
I came across this site after some major life changes. Mainly dropping my son (last child) off at college.
I my early years BC (before children) I owned a half dozen bikes. First ticket was at 14 on an old 250 Ellsinore, no license or endorsement. As soon as I got married and had my first child my wife and I agreed that it was time to put away the bikes.
I have been racing and restoring. VW’s, Muscle Cars. Porsches and BMW’s since then.
Flash forward 20 years, no wife, no kids…. Time for a motorcycle! As if by divine intervention (and craigslist) the day after I dropped my son off to college I came across a 1969 cl350. Picked it up for $300.
I have always loved the old cafe bikes and this looks like a good first project . With all the dozens of cars I have build I have been on numerous forums etc. I will have to say without a doubt this is the best one I have ever seen. So with your help and advice I hope to be on my little cafe and looking for my second project by spring. Oh yah I guess I better get that motorcycle endorsement pretty soon too.
Cheers,
Jerry in Southern Oregon
Well was not too long before I had all her clothes off and trying on a little nail polish. Since I am not too familular with this bike yet I an going t clean her up a bit and put all my mock up parts, get her running properly. Then after some sorting I will take the bike all the way apart and begin the real build.
Like the knee pads, but the seat tank are a no go together.
Well, it's a starting point. Looks pretty workable. A friend of mine bought a CL350 a few years ago that had sat outside since the 80's. It's almost running now. Can't wait to see how you transform it.
This is alot better, love the gs 450 tank And yes that front fender does clear the fat front tire. Not without a long conversation with a hammer though. I'm liking my bobed front fender, but the little cl headlight has to go! thompsonmx100 thanks for the seat
.
It is always interesting to me how many guys get married and the "agree" with the wife it is time to grow up and get rid of the bike. Just sayin.
Mine didn't like the pillion (or my riding style!) so she bought herself a Shadow. We adopted an infant, so I started building him a mini. Gotta start his lifelong addiction!
Enough of my rant - Welcome to DTT. The bike looks like a good platform and your mods ate a great start.
Welcome to DTT man. Great little bike. Ive had a few 350s in different configurations. The second mock up pic is the buisness! The GS tanks are gorgeous.
Oh, and if you get rid of that headlight, let me know...
The little seat was just to get me a start, now with the new tank maybe just a little modification. Its kinda wimpy. Im thinking of glassing a piece of mdo to the underside before I make the seat mounts.
So 2 votes for the little headlight? I was set on a 7" one I could mount a mini speedo in?
And on the wife bike thing, I was my idea too. Had a new family and a new business. Used to have 3-4 sketchy situations on the bikes a year and figured if I got hurt we ain't eating. Now pretty sure it's not the bike I gotta worry about! Lol
On one of my favorite bikes I rode back in the day was a 400 super sport. Wanted to find one but could not find one I could afford. Did an Internet search and came up with this picture that made me decide on an old honda cafe build. BTW does anyone know what headlight that is?
