Chicago Riders... Where do you buy gear?

Hey guys. I'm about to get my first bike and want to pick up a helmet/jacket/gloves before I do. I've been down to Chicago Cycle a couple times, but I've been told they're kind of pricey. Any other places in the city or the burbs that has a good selection of gear at a variety of price points? Thanks.

chicago cycle is like 5 blocks from my house!

I really dont know of any other mega dealership like that, that will offer the same selection. I think the best bet though is to go in there, try on gear, then order it online in the right size.

Chicago Cycle does have a HUGE selection of riding gear but I wouldnt give them a penny of my money.
Go there - try it on - write down make/model/size- buy online...

Yeah man , def second what pro said. Go there, Try it on, write it down and look for it online. Motorcycle superstore has a good chunk of the stuff they carry in the store ( and much more ) and it's cheaper since anything over $75 is free shipping. Add the fact we've got one of the highest sales tax in the country just makes it a much much better alternative to buying stuff in a store.

lol. I actually went in there yesterday to look for a helmet and gloves. The selection seemed pretty good, except I have a massive dome and only two helmets in the entire store in my price range fit my head.

None of the salesmen were pushy or bothersome, the one that I talked to actually came across as pretty legit. We were walking around the bikes and he asked if I needed help, I told him I'm just soaking it all in because I just got my first bike. He asked what kind it was, shook my hand and welcomed me to the family, and let me be.

Why is it that they get a bad rap? I'd love to support a local guy even if it means a few extra bucks out of my wallet.

ya, I always seem to hear bad things about chicago cycle, but theyve always been pretty friendly to me. When I tried to see if they had jets for my cb350 keihn carbs, one of the parts guys was kinda a know it all (he didnt believe me that the jets were push in), but besides that everyone has been nice and not pushy if Im just drooling all over their display bikes.

TONS of local/good shops owned by good/decent/fellow bikers you can support in Chicago.
