Cj360 rear brake panel

renslow

Been Around the Block
Before I start I have to say how thankful i am of this forum. I'm in the process of piecing together my cj360 and for my first build ever on a motorcycle I would be no where without this forum!

So!
I have a problem with the rear brake panel. If you look at the diagram i posted, #8 whenever i attempt to 'clamp' #10 on the gearing keeps getting pushed back into the brake panel so im unable to clamp onto the entire gear itself. Did that make sense? I keep running into problems like this and i know its mostly due to my error. I'm on the hotline! 1-800-cafe-help save me!

Once you have the wheel assembled with the axle securely attached to the swingarm, #8 shouldn't be able to be moved inward very much at all.

In addition, there shouldn't be much lateral movement in the brake shoes and those, too, will prevent the brake cam (#8) from moving.

I think you need to take it apart again and look things over.

Sonreir I appreciate your response. After just looking at the diagram it looks like that part shouldn't move at all, later tonight i should have some time to pull everything apart so i'll be sure to post some pictures or keep this thread updated to see if i fix it or not.

Lets be real i couldn't wait till later tonight haha so heres the problem;

So with the pictures i'm still lost with how this is suppose to be set into position. Im still able to push it in with no problems which is exactly what its not suppose to do. What is keeping '#8' in a fixed position? I must be missing something? I pulled the springs off the pads to pretty much start over with the assembly and im still running into this problem of not knowing how this keeps moving.

I know exactly what youre talking about. I had the exact same problem. Its was last spring I had this so I am trying to remember as best as I can. I jammed a screw driver in # 10 to open it up a little and was able to hold # 8 with my hand to slide it on. without pushing it in. Once I had it all together I found it was in the wrong position. jammed scredriver in again to get it off. Since drum was assembled it held it in place enough that I was able to work it back on in the correct position without, "losing" it. So, wedge a screwdirver in there. just not so much to break it. make sure the tip of the screwdriver doesnt protrude too far or it will hit the shaft and be in the way. You just have to work with it.

Okay i'll be sure to try this asap. I was doing the same thing as you described trying to push the linkage on with your hands without making it move and i had no luck. I'm glad i don't have to replace anything lol i appreciate your help guys i'll be sure to keep you updated.
