CJ360T Kickstart only catches sometimes

Got an issue with the kickstart. Im not sure what it is yet as I havent torn into the Right Crankcase, but sometimes the kickstart kicks the engine over and sometimes its just like stepping on a limp noodle. Any ideas what would cause this?

jup, there is a spring wich controls the gears mesh (or not in your case)could be broken, or you're missing a couple of teeth on the starter gear. Also, it could be just dirt clogged it all up.
