cl360 timing snafu

Been Around the Block
while adjusting the timing on my '75 cl360 a while back i noticed that the right side points looked messed up. one side had a crater and one a mountain. so i ordered a new set. swapped the right one out fiddled with the plate a little bit because it was sticking last time and then went to set the timing.

i don't have a timing light so i just hook my multi meter up to the points and when the needle swings i pretend like it's a light coming on.

this time i'm getting no imaginary light. the needle doesn't swing. no power to the points...

i feel like i'm doing something bone headed but i don't know what it would be. the bike was running before i swapped points.

the key is on. the battery has a charge. what am i missing?

Are the wires on the points connected correctly (IE not grounding on the motor)??

And if that is the case, you might have blown a fuse.

Sounds like you don't have that little bendy piece of metal off the point connected correctly. Make sure it wraps around and make contact with the metal nut (Bottom piece of pic)

couldn't be the kill switch, i never use AH FUCK.

i knew i was being an idiot...

HAHAHAAAAA That little mistake cost me an hour and 45 minute walk and a car ride back with every effing tool I had. I had forgotten my phone so I learned two things that night, never shut the damn thing off with the kill switch, and make sure your phone is FIRST on the list of AGATT. Started the ride at 630pm got the bike home at 945-1000 pm. Was 4 miles from the house the whole time.

You can file the points smooth again, and if they are eating themselves up quickly your condenser is bad.
