Clear coat rattle can vs pro

I have done a few backyard paint jobs and had some done pro. Every time I have used rattle can clear coat it comes off if gas touches it. What is the difference between spraypaint clear and the stuff used at body shops.... Can I buy the good stuff at local auto shop .... I saw a pint of clear coat there but didn't know if this stuff will react to gas too.

Thanks I'll check that out. I guess that can handle a drip of gasoline on the tank when filling u .

2k clear is as close to a pro job as the home painter can get. I painted my brother in laws SV650 a couple years back and topped it with 2k. Still looks like the day I laid it down.

Spraymax is a true, 2 component paint in a spraybomb.
When you push the button on the bottom of the can, the paint is usable for less than a day.
The crosslinker used in 2K urethanes is di-isocyanate, which attacks human lungs (brachea) etc. so wear a true spray mask with the correct filter or even supplied breathing air if you can, use in a well-ventilated shop or even mooch a spray booth if you can.
Sure, it comes in a spraybomb, BUT DO NOT spray it in your basement workshop, wearing a 2 dollar dust mask, while the wife is out shopping.
Great stuff, great finish, nasty for your health.
Have recently discovered that a Canadian Company called Enduro is offering 2K paint in spray bombs as well - just don't know what their product line consists of though.
Let's be careful out there.

Hi everyone,
As an update to the Canadian company selling 2K spraybombs, it's Endura Coatings in Edmonton, Alberta.
www.endura.ca is their website.
I don't think they sell direct, but you might be able to find a retailer in your area if you email the.
In my case (Toronto area), Composites Canada, 1100 Meyerside Ave, had a couple in stock but don't know what colours or if it was clear. Didn't check price either as I've still got some Spraymax in stock.

This is great I am going to order some today. Can you guys tell me EXACTLY what to get. I am seeing words like topcoat and lucent.... Just want to do it right without hiring a pro :) if possible.

I'm attaching a picture of my project. I want to paint a 3" black stripe down the center of the tank and leave the rest as bare metal. I want the grinded metal to be clear coated to prevent rust. I love the look of raw metal next to black paint.

You want the spraymax glamour clear. But I'll throw you a warning with using the clear over bare metal. I did one with bare metal and 2k clear and have started having under-rust issues. I don't know if it is an adhesion problem or a non porosity problem, but even after 3+ coats of clear I still started experiencing rust spots. If that's your goal I'd look into clear powder.

Aaaaah rust. I'll probably have the same problem especially living in Alabama where it rains every other day. What is an estimated cost for clear powder coating and any suggestions on who to use.
