clip-ons ... notch or drill out controls to run external wires?

Been Around the Block
Hi, i'm finishing up putting clip-ons on my 73CL350. I picked up TTR clip-ons, which are basically solid aluminum, so I need to run external wiring.

My question: I see folks notching out the controls to run external wiring. Has anybody drilled a hole (3/8"?) in the bottom of the control and run out the bottom? Seems cleaner?

Any of your pics on this would be much appreciated!

Thanks, Brad

drill a hole in the clip on, run wires through it. doesnt look right with the wires exposed IMHO.

Rocan, thanks for the reply. The TTR clip-ons are solid aluminum, so there's no running the wires internally. - Brad

It's ok to do it either way - notched on the side or a hole in the bottom.

Notched will give the wires a better "approach" towards the headlight though.

solid alloy? the bars too? what a waste... i wonder why tubing wouldnt be used. would be plenty strong and a good pound or two lighter.

Thanks BigR. I went w/ "notching".

Hadn't seen any pics on DTT, so here are mine. I started w/ a small drill bit. Went bigger a couple times until it crept out the side (and spun my hand around) and then went to town w/ a rat tail file and flat file. A little crude, but once the wires are in, it's pretty tight and the notch isn't visible.

Rocan, yep, solid alloy for ~ 2/3 of the bar. Open on grip side for ~4" (so, can do bar end mirrors) and then threaded on the "fork" side for the bolt that's part of the mount. Makes for a clean looking set up, but means you need to run external wires.
