CM400E constant brake light/no tail light

Hey guys, I have a 1981 CM400E that I absolute love working on. Recently I stripped it down a bit to really give it a good clean, fixed the dent in the gas tank and it is now prepped for paint. I marked all wires when I removed the rear bumper, and put it all back together yesterday. Everything worked except the brake light is always on. Pushing either of the brake levers does not cause anything to happen with the light. I assume that I must have missed a ground or something so I re-checked those, fiddled with the rear brake "plunger" to see if that was out of adjustment, and checked to make sure that the front brake wires had good contacts. Everything looks right I just can't seem to figure it out. Any advice?

Swap the hot wires just in case. I just put together my 79 cm400t, and confusingly enough i swear it changed a couple times lol. I actually had to run a separate wiring to the hot wire on the head light. I would have to look when i get home from work. I dont know if your wiring is the same but the green/yellow wire is your brake lights brown is running and green is ground. My after market light is yellow to brown, red to green/yellow, and black to green.

That worked! I actually ended up swapping them to a couple of different configurations (which does not even seem possible) and now they are good to go!

Awesome man. I know the frustration. It didnt make sense to me either. glad you got her going though!
Be safe out there.
