Coincidence? Weird shit

OK, last Saturday Brendon called over and we were going riding.
Got about 2~3 miles and bike cut out, popped a fuse.
No biggie, put spare fuse in.
Popped that as well, plus the next one (had tank off couldn't find any problems in wiring)
First time in over 40 yrs I've had a bike break down with an electrical problem I couldn't fix at the side of the road.
Parked bike and picked it up later in truck.
I have one of the fold out 'ladder' style ramps so it 'bumps' a bit (this is important later)
You may have heard Florida had some 'bad weather' last week?
Anyway, couldn't do anything until Friday (yesterday)
Loaded bike back onto truck and took it to work with me (went in early as 6 students graduated and didn't have any family coming)
After graduation, unloaded bike and pushed it into workshop.
Put it on center stand, got some stuff ready and waited for a lift to be available
Put bike onto lift, put in on center stand again, 'CLINK' :-\
the sprocket holding plate fell onto lift ::)
Decided to fix electrical problem first then check it wasn't the plate I 'lost' few weeks ago.
Anyway,
spent an hour checking connections, ground problems, switches, wiring for short circuit, coil connections and just about anything else you can think of (battery, regulator, rectifier, etc)
There is NO electrical problem ???
Put a new fuse in, everything great
Bike had been pushed around , over curbs, on and off truck twice, ridden at dubious speeds but no problem until there was a problem, the problem was sprocket fixing plate.
Guess bike doesn't want me hurt 8)
If I was superstitious I would say something else was going on? ;)
Took a quick test ride this morning, only mile or so, playing in the traffic, running good ;D
Weird huh?

Karma is my guess.

Ya help enough "new guys" on here avoid killin' themselves, something good is bound to happen.

Damn lucky is all i have to say man, karma can be a bitch or it could save your life. I guess it was the later for you.

Man pj, that's a breath of fresh air. Bout time you got some good luck with all you've felt with recently medically. Glad all is well.

jeez man, thats some good karma on your side!

I guess your going to have to bust out more safety wire eh? ;)

a few weeks ago I installed new adjustable levers on my Duc. went for a ride the next day and the bike ran like utter shit, sputtering and coughing through the pods a few blasts out the pipe (I was thinking it was charging system as low voltage and fuel injection dont get along)... I got to work ok and on my lunch I went to grab my bike to throw on a lift to inspect it and the brakes were locked shut! I dident give them enough freeplay!

had the thing run as it normally did I would have fried the disks and killed my pads, after adjusting the levers properly the bike ran like a top.

take care of the bike, the bike takes care of you.

Not mechanical related, but back when I was "Immortal" and too cool to wear ATGATT (around 17-18 y/o), I had a heavy denim jacket I wore only when we went street racing. (I know, I know... street racing is bad. But like I said, I was "immortal" back then ;) )
I was leaving the house to go meet some buddies for a leisurely ride. It had been raining in the early morning but had since stopped. As I was walking out my bedroom, I noticed my denim jacket laying in the doorway. This was odd since it always gets hung up behind the door. I wondered how it got there, but picked it up to rehang it behind the door. As I was doing this I started to think "Might not be a bad idea to wear it... it'll keep what's left of the water on the roads from dirtying up my white t-shirt". So I put it on and rode away.
About 15 minutes later, at about 35-40mph, a woman swerved left into my lane. I grabbed a handful of brakes on a wet street and dumped the bike. I slid on my back for about 10-15 yards. When I came to a stop, I could hear the car behind me sliding. I did a backroll to get out of the street, just in time to see a p/u truck come to a stop right where I had been laying.
The bike was a little worse for wear, and the jacket had some serious scuffs and a small hole, but I didn't have a scratch on me.
The jacket that I wouldn't have normally worn... the one that wasn't supposed to be in my way on the floor... saved my hide.
It's also important to note... On this same jacket, pinned to the pocket flap, was my Grandfathers pilot wings from his time in the Army Air Corps during WWII. They were given to me when he passed away about 4 years before. I had put them on the jacket as a rememberence of him, but used to joke that if I died while riding, I already had my angel wings... compliments of my Grandfather.
Coincidence? Maybe. But I like to think my Grandfather was watching out for me that day.
After that I started wearing jackets (and more gear) more often.
I also still have his pilot wings. I don't wear them on my jacket anymore, for fear of losing/damaging them. But I still have them, just in case I need the wings ;)

AWESOME STORY MAN.

Thanks. Since the post got me thinking about them, I pulled the wings out of hiding...

@ Redbird

I don't mean to be adversarial at all. I just wanted to let you know that it looks like those aren't his actual 'pilot wings' as pilots usually wore as their breast insignia. Pilot wings had a shield between the wings, not a prop. It looks like what you have there is his Army Air Force officer collar device.

I got all this info from http://www.ww2wings.com/wings/usaaf/usaafmain.shtml

This is what AAF pilot wings look like:

And this is what an AAF officer collar device looks like:

Maybe someone in your family still has the real pilot wings?

Hmm, well I'll be damned. I knew it was a lapel pin from seeing it in pictures of him in his uniform. When they were given to me, back when I was 14 or so, I was told they were his pilots wings. I never gave it a second thought.
I suppose my Grandmother could have said something like "Those were his wings from when he was a pilot" and I just misunderstood. It was nearly 30 years ago now, so my recollection is a little fuzzy to say the least lol
And somebody may still have his actual Pilots Wings, but due to a huge falling out with that (my Mothers) side of the family when my parents divorced (when I was 18), and my Grandmother passing away about 8 years ago, I'll probably never know what happened to them.
I guess Ill stop calling them Pilots Wings from now on :)

Thanks for the info dude... seriously ;)

It's still freakin awesome that your Grandfather was a AAF pilot. It was my dream to be a Navy pilot, but I was medically disqualified at Officer Candidate School. I really hope I didn't ruin any of the sentiment that you had for your Grandfather's lapel pin. It doesn't take away the fact he was a pilot and fought for the freedom we enjoy today.

Nah, you didn't ruin anything at all. It still has all the same sentiment, I've just been calling it the wrong name all these years ;)
