I've being working on a project that's pretty unique. I took an 86 Honda cr500 2 stroke dirtbike and chopped it. Long way to go still but it's taking shape.
Thanks. The tabletop is rock maple from a 100+ year old bowling alley and the steel was all pulled from a scrap yard that the road and bridge department dumped. I paid about $20 for the spray paint but other than that it was a free build.
It's a lot more soothing to build on a wood table.
Yeah that was my initial setup "guess", in reality the frame will be about 3" higher than this initial mockup. I don't have my tires yet so I can't set the final axle height. I'm a road racer so I guarantee the bike will be able to lean before its finished, I just haven't adjusted the geometry yet.
Nice drawing. Yes that's pretty much what it will be like. I think the forks will be a little bit longer since they are full length dirtbike forks,But that's really close. I setup the frame jig using measurements taken with the forks at full compression so it will be sitting higher than it is now.
The bars will be a good reach even with drag bars. I will build those after I get a seat built. My seat will be low so I will probably tuck in my controls really tight. I use to race small GP bikes so I'm comfortable with my feet being close, but I will also have some cruising pegs.
I can't wait to see how it turns out either. Mainly I want to finish it so I can put my next project back on the lift. It's a 76 Suzuki gt750 "water buffalo". Yes a 500cc 2 stroke street bike just isn't crazy enough, I had to get a 750cc water cooled 2 stroke. I think this one will be a skinny , low and level hard tail board tracker.
