Craigslist, whats up with people any more?

I don't hold anything. But i tell that to people right away. As a seller, of all things household, jeep parts, car parts etc, i've had too many buyers whose excitement wanes after theys sleep on it, and i'm back to square 1 trying to find a buyer again. Just as frustratinng. I don't even know why people commit if they are not certain they will go through with it. Ridiculous.

So i always say, its only yours if you show up here with money. If someone else shows up first, i'm selling it to them.

I'll normally hold stuff for a day before passing it on to the next buyer in line. Gives people the chance to make plans to come get it.

Just from personal dealings there's nothing worse than telling someone "okay i'll take it, i'll be there after work" and then have they text you back an hour later saying "sorry some useless shmuck without a job showed up and bought it while you were at work"

You can't expect someone to just drop what they are doing and be at your house immediately IMO.
Although I agree that it leads to more people backing out, it's just the way I would like to be treated.

It also depends what it is too, for a motorcycle I'll hold for a day so they can arrange to be off work and get a truck etc.
For a 30 dollar fender I could care less, first come first serve.

Or ride 70 miles to see a bike that you had pre-arranged to see only to learn that the guy "forgot" you were coming (after you called that morning) and hung around at work an extra two hours. Meanwhile, his pit bull (un-restricted) decided to entertain you as you slowly backed your 900+ pound GoldWing out of his gravel drive. Seeing the condition of his property however, I lost interest in the bike.

agreed. Most of the stuff i've been selling have been cheap parts like your fender example, so i think we are on the same page.

I try to be agreeable with whatever terms someone sets while selling, or asks for if I am selling. It all goes south when people dont keep their word, or conveniently forget conversations. Its is is simple as doing what you say, but it is usually not that simple.
