Crescent Moon Cycles, questionable customer service

Been Around the Block
Needed turn signals for the GL1000. When I bought the bike it had mismatched signals, one stock, and one from a yamaha, rigged to fit. So, I ordered a set from a seller on Ebay, paid $6 for shipping and all went well, received the signals in less than a week.

I still, however needed a single bolt to attach it to the bike...I'm sure you've seen them, they squeeze into the signal base, then screw onto the bike. I found one at Crescent Moon Cycles, $27 plus nearly $8 in shipping. That was 2 weeks ago. At the time, they were listed as being in stock. I sent a follow up to them, and just received the reply that they "had 5 pair at one point and ran out. I had ordered another 6 pair right before you ordered but I haven't gotten them in yet."

So...I'm still waiting for my bolt. I expect to get it, like they said, but don't you think they might have found it necessary to inform me that it would take a bit longer since they were out of stock? When I pay over $5 for shipping on an item as small as a bolt, I expect it in quite rapidly.

Just a notice, before you try to order anything from them, e-mail and ask if they really have it, because it doesn't appear that they'll let you know if there is a problem.

Ok, a follow up on this disaster of an exchange.

I received my bolt(s). They sent a pair, thought I thought I was only receiving one. Unfortunately, they don't fit. The diameter is too large to go through the hole in the frame, or screw into the nut that's welded to the inside of the rear fender. I had e-mailed the company the day I received them (April 12th) asking them if there was, perhaps, 2 different types of rear signal bolts for the 1977 model year GL1000. TODAY, almost a month later, they responded letting me know that they hadn't noticed my e-mail.

here was their response:
"I apologize for not getting back to you. I missed your email. The bolt you have is not a GL1000 bolt. I'm not sure what it is. I will try to find out what they are. If the bolts I sent you will not work you are welcome to send them back. There is a 15% restocking fee but I can refund you the rest. Let me know. "

OK...so, they claim that what I had taken off of my bike was not a bolt from a GL1000 (they must think I'm stupid or something) So, I can send the bolts back to them, paying a 15% restocking fee, AND I'll have to cover shipping...

So, I told them that I don't think I need to pay a restocking fee, OR shipping (they charged $8 to ship to me...these shouldn't cost more than $3 to ship, though. I then responded:

"The motorcycle I have is 100% a 1977 Honda GL1000. The frame, and rear fender are 100% original, and the bolt I received is too large to fit into either. The bolt I took off was the original rear signal bolt. The other signal was aftermarket, fabricated by one of the previous owners. This is why I wanted them to be identical, and why I thought I was ordering the correct part, as indicated by your website. If you can't get the part needed (that I thought I was ordering) then I will be glad to send what I recveived back to you, for a full refund, including shipping both ways."

Bottom line here is...I have a 1977 Honda GL1000....the rear signals slip into the frame, then screw into the fender...the bolts I was sent, are too large to fit into either. They are trying to tell me that the bolt I removed FROM THE ORIGINAL FRAME AND FENDER, are not GL1000 bolts???

My next step is to contact Randakks to see if there ism in fact, a different bolt for the same model year bikes...since Crescent Moon doesn't seem to know what they are selling.

Hey TJ, can you post a pick of the bolt you need? I may have one you can have for shipping cost, that would be like 2-3 bucks. I have 2-3 sets of old signals some from GL's and some of the bolts etc. If you post a pic, I can look at mine and let you know.

Cheers,
