Custom exhaust install help?!

Been Around the Block
I'm putting together a resto mod bike that was never fully assembled. I'm attempting to put on the exhaust and it seems the spigot pipe (part of the exhaust is to long. I have removed the old crush washer. Can I cut it to match a regular spigot length? I ask bc it seems these and the spigot has a bit of a rolled edge, I assume to help even crush the washer.

1st picture is how far I can push the exhaust in. 2nd is the spigot end. 3rd is a comparison.

Hard to tell from photo, but is this an Honda SOHC four? You need exhaust studs to mount the exhaust, and the collars for the exhaust do not mount snug to the engine -- there is usually a space there (maybe for air flow for cooling?). I have seen people thread regular bolts into the engine to mount the exhaust, but don't think this holds up well.

yes this is a cb750k2. So I need studs and a nuts like this last entry? http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=121349.0

I was going to use bolts but I can use threaded rod cut to length and acorn nuts?

I guess you could use a threaded rod if you could find the right thread -- but someone chime in if there is a reason not to, other than aesthetics or perhaps having thread where the collars sit is weaker for some reson. That being said, OEM exhaust studs are widely available for cheap (around $2 I think), despite the fact that Ebay hacks have been known to sell used and rusty and shitty exhaust studs for, for example, CB400F for $9 apiece. Look up a Honda dealer with an online fiche for bikes from different years; if you can't find one, I will show you one. I think part of the problem of using regular bolts is that they might not seat all the way into the engine and thus become loose easier. As for nuts, I've seen and used both two nuts per stud and a nut and a lock washer.
