Custom KZ650 Wiring Harness

Hey guys! How goes the bike building? Well, more than likely, alot of you had wiring issues at some point of the bike's life. After all, we're talking 30+ year old bikes here. So, what I would like to know is: Has anyone built themselves a custom wiring harness for their bike?
- What components did you keep, what did you cut out?
-How much did you spend?
-Where did you find the supplies?
-What can you do without? (i.e. swapping tach and speedo with a tach/speedo single gauge)

Latest project, I tried to use as much stock as possible but that wasn't good. In teh end I got a fuse panel and relays from http://www.easternbeaver.com/Main/Products/Fuseboxes/PC-8/pc-8.html along with a pile of nice clean new multi pin connectors.

I unwrapped the harness and used many of the wires.

Used a Trail Tech Vapor speedo/tacho/temp gauge, GSXR left switch block - next time I'll get a 40 buck made in PRC left switch block off ebay. LED aftermarket rear lamp and small LED flashers. LED light strip from the local auto parts store to light up the rear plate.

I do not want to think about the cost by the time I finished, but not as much as you might think.

If I don't have a harness to work from as a source of wire, I sued to go to the local auto wreckers and drag a wiring harness out of a car. Long runs of different colors. Just get it from an older car or van. It's dirt but cheap and sometimes that's the most important thing.

I like the idea of salvaging a harness from the auto wrecker. I once explained on this board how I rarely buy wire because it is available for virtually free a lot of places. The quality of this junkyard wire is also often higher quality than the cheap stuff you can buy at the parts store. Wire, connectors, relays, fuses can all be had for virtually nothing...

That's where I'm coming from. All my builds are done on a tight budget - ever heard of zero based budgeting? Well that's my philosophy. ;) I alwys had to find creative solutions and the habit stuck.

Thanks guys for the ideas. I never thought to look at the auto yard for wire. Will be doing that. I got a diagram, now it's just a matter of supplies and such.
