Cutting down UNI foam filter?

I'm having trouble getting the shitty pod filter that came with my bike to mount to the carb and clear the petcock. There's just not enough room for it to fit properly. I stumbled across this pick on the net and it looks like someone took UNI foam filters and just cut them to fit. Anyone have any experience with this?

Those filters are made like that. Look for ones that fit.

Trevor cut his down to clear the frame. cut to length, cut out center, glue center, enjoy!

His bike gets ridden and has had no problem
